Scripture
Gal 6:7-9 NIV84Â Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. 8 The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. 9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
Observation
The principle of sowing and reaping was established by God from the beginning of creation (Gen 1:12; 8:22 etc.). We know it is true in the natural seasonal realm of harvesting, but the same principle applies to all areas of our lives. Paul reminds us that “whatever one sows that will he also reap.†(ESV). He also warns, “Do not be deceived: God is not mocked.†In the previous chapter Paul talks about “the works of the flesh†(see 5:19-21) and the “fruit of the Spirit†(see 5:22-23). If we want to produce good fruit in our lives, we must sow good seed. Hosea say it this way, “Sow for yourselves righteousness; reap steadfast love; break up your fallow ground, for it is the time to seek the LORD, that he may come and rain righteousness upon you. You have plowed iniquity; you have reaped injustice; you have eaten the fruit of lies.†(Hos 10:12-13 ESV). What kind seeds are we sowing to produce good fruit in our lives? Here is the good fruit which we want to see: “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.†(5:22-23).
How does this apply to you?
