詩篇 72:1-4 （リビングバイブルJCB）　ああ神よ。王が、あなたが行うように政治を行い、王子が神を恐れて暮らすように、助けてください。 2王が、神の民にはもちろんのこと、貧しい人にも公平であるように、助けてください。 3王のすぐれた治世を反映して、山や丘には草木が生い茂りますように。 4王の手で貧しい者や困っている者が手厚く保護され、虐待する者たちは容赦なく　懲らしめられるようにしてください。

ソロモンがイスラエルの王となったときに神が知恵と悟りの心を与えて、イスラエル、神の民を治め、導くことができるようにと祈りました（1列王記3:9参照）。ここでその祈りがさらに公開し明かしています。パウロも促しています。「また、すべての重い責任を負っている人たちのために祈りなさい。それは、私たちが主を深く思いながら、平安のうちに落ち着いた一生を過ごすためです」（1テモテ 2:2 JCB）。この詩はいかにして私たちが指導者と上に立つ者のために祈ることができるかを具体的に教えています。彼らが正義と公正をもって治めるように、特に虐げられている者、貧しい者と困っている者、子どもや幼い者を守り保護するように、地の繁栄の源が祝福され解かれますようにと祈るべきです。しかし同時に虐げる者、圧政者が懲らしめられ、取り除かれるようにと祈るべきです。これらのことが国に、社会に平安と平和をもたらし、落ち着いた静かな生活が暮らせるようにするものです。これらのものは自由な解放された社会がもたらすものです。ソロモンはこのような統治者となるように祈りました。パウロもこのような指導者が起こされるように祈り、また彼らのために祈るようにと勧めています。

Psa 72:1-4 TPT  Solomon’s psalm. O God, make the king a godly judge like you and give the king’s son the gift of justice too. 2 Help him to give true justice to your people, honorably and equally to all. 3 Then the mountains of influence will be fruitful, and from your righteousness prosperity and peace will flow to all the people. 4 May the poor and humble have an advocate with the king. May he consider the children of the poor and crush the cruel oppressor. 

Observation

When Solomon became King of Israel he prayed that God would give him wisdom and an understanding heart to lead Israel, the people of God (see 1Kings 3:9). Here is a little more expansion of that prayer.  Paul also admonishes us to “Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity.” (1Tim 2:2 NLT).  This Psalm is a guide to how we can pray in detail for those who are in authority.  That they would rule with justice and in righteousness; that they would especially be advocates for those who are poor and afflicted; that they would release the sources of prosperity and cause the land to be fruitful (productive and produce wealth); that they would give consideration to the children, but also “crush the cruel oppressor.”  These are all things that would create an environment where we can live peacefully and quietly with godliness and dignity.  This is what freedom and liberty bring to society.  Just as Solomon prayed to be this kind of leader, just as Paul challenged us to pray for these kinds of leaders, let us fulfill our godly duty to see these kind of leaders raised up and continually pray for them.
