黙示録 1:17-18（新改訳JSS2017）　この方を見たとき、私は死んだ者のように、その足もとに倒れ込んだ。すると、その方は私の上に右手を置いて言われた。「恐れることはない。わたしは初めであり、終わりであり、生きている者である。わたしは死んだが、見よ、世々限りなく生きている。また、死とよみの鍵を持っている。

コメント

ヨハネはイエスの幻を見て圧倒され、大きな衝撃を受けました。地上に生きておられたイエスを知っていました。また、よみがえりのイエスも見られました。イエスが天に昇られたときも、雲に包まれていったのをも見ました。しかし、ここで、よみがえられたイエスだけではなく、栄光を受け、帯びていたイエスを目の当たりにしていました。圧倒されて、死んだもの同様に足元に倒れました。しかし、イエスは手をヨハネに置かれ、慰めと力を与えられる言葉を語りました。「恐れることはない」（以前にも何回も神の力と栄光を現されたイエスが言ったことばです（この時、ヨハネは何を感じていたか想像できるでしょうか）。イエスはそれから、すべての時間とあらゆることを超越する卓越性を宣言されました「わたしは初めであり、終わりである」（その前にも、「わたしはアルファであり、オメガである」と言っています。黙示録の締めくくりにもまた宣言しています。「わたしはアルファであり、オメガである。最初であり、最後である。初めであり、終わりである」（黙示録22:13 JSS2017）。初めから終わりまですべてのことを御手の中に持ち、支配されています。すべてをコントロールされるかたです。さらに言っています。「生きている者である。わたしは死んだが、見よ、世々限りなく生きている。」これは究極的な真理であります。イエスは約束しました。「わたしはよみがえりです。いのちです。わたしを信じる者は死んでも生きるのです。また、生きていてわたしを信じる者はみな、永遠に決して死ぬことがありません。あなたは、このことを信じますか」（ヨハネ 11:25-26 JSS2017）。パウロはこのように言いました。「では、これらのことについて、どのように言えるでしょうか。神が私たちの味方であるなら、だれが私たちに敵対できるでしょう。私たちすべてのために、ご自分の御子さえも惜しむことなく死に渡された神が、どうして、御子とともにすべてのものを、私たちに恵んでくださらないことがあるでしょうか」（ローマ8:31-32 JSS2017）。

Observation

John’s vision of Jesus is impacting and overwhelming.  He knows Jesus from his earthly life and had seen him in his resurrected form after his resurrection. He even saw Jesus physically ascend into heaven enveloped in the clouds.  But here he sees Jesus in not only his resurrected state but in his glorified form.  He is so overcome that he falls at His feet as though dead.  But Jesus places his loving and reassuring hand on John and then speaks words of comfort and strength.  “Do not be afraid” (what do you imagine John was sensing?) This is also something Jesus had spoken many times before when they encountered the power and glory of God manifest through Jesus.  Jesus then reiterates his preeminence over all time and everything that happens.  “I am the first and the Last” (Earlier he had said, “I am the Alpha and Omega.” Revelations also ends with this declaration: “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.” (Rev 22:13 NIV84).  He is in control of everything that happens from the beginning to the end.  He has got it all under control.  Then he declares, “I am the Living One; I was dead and behold I am alive for ever and ever.”  Jesus had said the same when he was here on earth, “I am the resurrection and the life.”  This is the ultimate truth. No matter what happens to us he promises, “He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.” (John 11:25-26 NIV84). Paul says it this way, “What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?” (Rom 8:31-32 NIV84).
