ヨハネ 1:18 （新改訳JSS2017）　いまだかつて神を見た者はいない。父のふところにおられるひとり子の神が、神を説き明かされたのである。
（リビングバイブルJCB）　いまだかつて、実際に神を見た人はいません。しかし、神のひとり子だけは別です。御子は父なる神といつもいっしょですから、神について知っていることを教えてくださいました。

ヨハネ（イエスに愛された弟子）はイエスの本当の正体を教え、説明しようとしてます（1‐18節）。イエスは創造主ご自身で、すべての物と人を創造されたお方です（3節参照）；イエスは人となられた（肉体を持った神）（14節参照）；イエスは命であり光です（4節参照）；恵みと真に満ちたお方で、私たちに恵みと真（真理）をもたらしました（14，17節参照）；イエスは私たちを神の子とするために来られた（12‐13節参照）。私たちはこの神の子となるために必要なのはただイエスを知り受け入れて、その名（主イエスキリスト、救い主、メシヤである神）を信じることです。この神こそ受肉され、私たちの間に住まわれました（字義どおりの意味は「幕屋されました」 14節参照）。父なる神を私たちに表し教えるために来られ、神を私たちの手の届くところに置かれました。黙示録の書（これもヨハネによって書かれました）には神の究極的目的は私たち人間の間に住み（幕屋となり）、私たちの神となり、私たちをご自分の民とすることであると言っています。「見よ、神の幕屋が人々とともにある。神は人々とともに住み、人々は神の民となる。神ご自身が彼らの神として、ともにおられる」（黙示録 21:3 JSS2017）。なんという驚くべき素晴らしい福音でしょう。

Joh 1:18 TPT  No one has ever gazed upon the fullness of God’s splendor except the uniquely beloved Son, who is cherished by the Father and held close to his heart. Now he has unfolded to us the full explanation of who God truly is! 

Observation

John, the Beloved Apostle of Jesus, tries to explain who Jesus really is.  He is the creator God himself who created all things and all people (v.3); he became a man (God in the flesh) (v.14); he was life and light (v.4); he was full of grace and truth and brought us grace and truth (instead of law, rules and regulations) (v.14,17); he came to make us children of God (v.12-13).  All we have to do to become Children of God is to receive him (as who He is), and believe in his name (the Lord Jesus Christ, God who is Savior and Messiah). This is God Incarnate who came and lived (literally, tabernacled, made his dwelling) among us (v.14). He came to show us who the Father God truly is and to make himself fully accessible to all.  In the Book of Revelation (also written by John), He tells us the ultimate purpose of God, was to dwell with us and among us and to make us his people.  “Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.” (Rev 21:3 NIV84). This is the Amazing Gospel.
