Scripture
Joh 4:50-51 NIV84Â Jesus replied, “You may go. Your son will live.” The man took Jesus at his word and departed. 51 While he was still on the way, his servants met him with the news that his boy was living.
Observation
A royal official (possibly of Herod’s court but who was a ruling, governmental official in Capernaum) came to Jesus to ask Jesus to heal his son who was near death. This official would have had to walk almost a day’s journey from Capernaum to Cana. This shows his desperation. It does not matter who we are or what titles we have, we all have needs that we can bring to Jesus. Jesus only said, “Go; your son will live.†The official took Jesus at his word. By faith he received the promise of healing for his son. When his servants met him on his way home they told him that his son was recovering. Upon inquiry, he discovers that the timing of the son’s recovery and when Jesus had said, “Your son will live†was exactly the same time. Faith believes and takes hold of God’s promises. Psalms tells us, “Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. 20 He sent out his word and healed them, and delivered them from their destruction. 21 Let them thank the LORD for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man!â€Â (Psa 107:19-21 ESV).Â
