ヨハネ12:37（新改訳JSS2017）　イエスがこれほど多くのしるしを彼らの目の前で行われたのに、彼らはイエスを信じなかった。

なぜ、多くのユダヤ人はイエスをメシアとして受け入れ信じなかったのか？ヨハネは預言者イザヤからその説明を導き出しました。それはまとめて言いますと、頑なな心があったからであると言っています。明らかな証拠を無視して、信じないことは決断から成り立ちます。人々はあえて信じないことを選ぶのは、信じたら変わらなければ（変えなければ）ならないからです。自分が間違っていたことを認めなければなりません。そして、新しい真理の枠組みを受け入れなければなりません。明らかなことであっても、自分の真理の認識と異なるとき、それを否定する傾向があります。人々が信じないことを選ぶとき、神はあえて彼らの心を頑なにされるとイザヤは言っています。「主は彼らの目を見えないようにされた。また、彼らの心を頑なにされた。彼らがその目で見ることも、心で理解することも、立ち返ることもないように。そして、わたしが彼らを癒やすことも　ないように」（40節 JSS2017）。これは本当に悲しいことです。実は、彼らが神に立ち返るなら、神は彼らの心をいやしたいと願っているのです。もう一つのグループの人々は、イエスが言っている通りの方であることを認めていたが、人々の目（栄誉）を気にして、公には認めようとしない人々です。「彼らは、神からの栄誉よりも、人からの栄誉を愛したのである」（43節 JSS2017）。イエスはあらかじめに注意しました。「自分に光があるうちに、光の子どもとなれるように、光を信じなさい」（36節 JSS2017）。証拠となることだけに目を向けるのではなく、イエスのことばと共に信じましょう。ダビデも言いました。「あなたのみことばは　私の足のともしび　私の道の光です」（詩篇119:105 JSS2017）。

Joh 12:37 NLT But despite all the miraculous signs Jesus had done, most of the people still did not believe in Him.

Observation

Why wouldn’t many of the Jews believe in Jesus as the Messiah? John goes back to the prophet Isaiah who explains that the reason people would not believe in Jesus even though they see his miraculous signs is because of a hardened heart.  It is a choice, to not believe the evidence that is already available.  The reason people choose not to believe is because it requires a change.  You have to acknowledge that you were wrong and that you have to accept a new frame of reference for truth, God’s revealed truth.  When even the obvious does not fit into our perception of truth, we tend to reject it.  Isaiah says, that when people choose not to believe, God “has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts–so that their eyes cannot see, and their hearts cannot understand, and they cannot turn to Me and have Me heal them.” (v. 40 NLT). The sad thing is that actually the Lord wants to and would heal them if they would turn to him.  Another group of people acknowledged that Jesus was who he said he was but refused to acknowledge it before others for fear of people, “for they loved human praise more that the praise of God.” (v. 43 NLT).  Jesus had warned, “Put your trust in the light while there is still time; then you will become children of the light.” (v. 36 NLT)  Let’s believe not only the obvious evidence but Jesus words themselves.  David said, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.” (Psa 119:105 NIV84).  Let the Word of God be our guide for the Truth.
