ヨハネ14:12-14（リビングバイブルJCB）　よく言っておきます。わたしを信じる者は、わたしと同じわざを行うばかりか、それよりもさらに大きなわざを行うのです。わたしが父のもとに行くからです。 13わたしの名によって、父に願い求めなさい。どんなことでもかなえてあげましょう。父が子によってほめたたえられるためです。 14わたしの名によって願い求めることは、必ずかなえられるのです。

イエスはここででも、弟子たちに自分のこととその働きを分からせようとしています。イエスと父なる神との関係はユニークなものでしたが、イエスと私たちの関係をも描写していたものです。イエスの驚くべき奇跡の御業は父なる神との関係から現わされたものです。父なる神はイエスの内におられ、イエスも父の内におられたからです（次の15章でこのことをさらに詳しくぶどうの木の幹と枝をもって説明されます）。この結果は私たちが「それよりもさらに大きなわざを行う」ためです。これは私たちが好き勝手に何でもできる意味ではなく、「父が子によって栄光をお受けになるためです」（13節 JSS2017）。イエスはいかにこのようなこと（奇跡）を行われたかも説明されました。「まことに、まことに、あなたがたに言います。子は、父がしておられることを見て行う以外には、自分から何も行うことはできません。すべて父がなさることを、子も同様に行うのです。20それは、父が子を愛し、ご自分がすることをすべて、子にお示しになるからです。また、これよりも大きなわざを子にお示しになるので、あなたがたは驚くことになります」（ヨハネ5:19-20 JSS2017）。そして私たちにも教えています。「まことに、まことに、あなたがたに言います。わたしを信じる者は、わたしが行うわざを行い、さらに大きなわざを行います」（12節 JSS2017）。私たちはこれを受け取る用意と覚悟はあるでしょうか？このことは私たちの祈りに大きな影響があるとイエスはさらに教えました。「またわたしは、あなたがたがわたしの名によって求めることは、何でもそれをしてあげます。父が子によって栄光をお受けになるためです。あなたがたが、わたしの名によって何かをわたしに求めるなら、わたしがそれをしてあげます」（13-14節 JSS2017）。これはイエスが私たちを通して働かれるときに起こることです。さらに大いなる御業を見ましょう。

Joh 14:12-14 NLT “I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in Me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father. 13 You can ask for anything in My name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father. 14 Yes, ask Me for anything in My name, and I will do it!

Observation

Jesus is still trying to get the disciples to understand who He truly was and what he was wanting to accomplish through them. His relationship with God the Father was unique but it was also a picture of the relationship Jesus wants with each of us, his disciples.  Jesus says that He has been doing the miraculous works because the Father is in Him and He in the Father.  Now he says that we will have the same relationship with Jesus as he had with the Father (Jesus explains this in greater detail in chapter 15 using the vine and the branches).  The result is we will do “even greater works.” This is not a blank check to get anything we want but rather, “to bring glory to the Father.”  Jesus explains how He works, “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by Himself. He does only what He sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does. 20 For the Father loves the Son and shows Him everything He is doing. In fact, the Father will show Him how to do even greater works than healing this man. Then you will truly be astonished.” (John 5:19-20 NLT).  Now he tells us, “Whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do.” (v.12 ESV).  Are we ready for this?  Jesus tells us, “Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.” (v.13-14 ESV) It must be Jesus working in us and through us, and we doing what the Father’s will and purpose is. Let’s see “greater works”.
