ヨハネ19:19-20（新改訳JSS2017）　ピラトは罪 状書きも書いて、十字架の上に掲げた。それには「ユダヤ人の王、ナザレ人イエス」と書かれていた。イエスが十字架につけられた場所は都に近かったので、多くのユダヤ人がこの罪 状書きを読んだ。それはヘブル語、ラテン語、ギリシア語で書かれていた。

コメント

イエスはローマ法廷のもとでさばき（不正なさばき）を受けられ、その罪が表題に書かれ十字架上に貼られました。「ユダヤ人の王、ナザレ人イエス」。しかし、イエスの生涯の中で、また働かれた間、一度も自分は王であることを言われませんでした。総督ピラトの前でも自分からは自称されませんでした（ヨハネ18：33-26参照）。「おまえたちの王を私が、十字架につけるのか。」とピラトがユダヤ人に言われたとき、彼らは「カエサルのほかには、わたくしたちに王はありません。」と答えました。（彼らはローマに対する憎しみよりはイエスに対する憎しみが大きかったのです。）ピラトはその表題に書かれたことはユダヤ人の指導者たちに当てつけるためだけではなく、これからも、ローマの権威に逆らうものに対する警告でもありました。しかし、これはユダヤ人の王であるかどうか以上のものでありました。イエスは、ユダヤ人の王だけではなく、パウロも初代のキリスト者が信じていたことを宣言されました。「どうか、世々の王、すなわち、朽ちることなく、目に見えない唯一の神に、誉れと栄光が世々限りなくありますように。アーメン」（１テモテ1:17 JSS2017）。されに宣言しました。「キリストの現れを、定められた時にもたらしてくださる、祝 福に満ちた唯一の主権者、王の王、主の主」（１テモテ6:15 JSS2017）。黙示録の中ではキリストが王の王、主の主として帰って来られる様子が描かれています。「その方は血に染まった衣をまとい、その名は「神のことば」と呼ばれていた。16 その衣と、もものところには、「王の王、主の主」という名が記されていた」（黙示録 19:13,16 JSS2017）。ピラトは書かれたことの意味を本当に理解しておられたのかはいずれとも、預言的宣言をされたのです。最終的にイエスキリストが戻られたときにはユダヤ人の王だけではなく、すべての国、民族、国民の王として、帰って来られます。「見よ、その方は雲とともに来られる。すべての目が彼を見る。彼を突き刺した者たちさえも。地のすべての部族は　彼のゆえに胸をたたいて悲しむ。しかり、アーメン。8神である主、今おられ、昔おられ、やがて来られる方、全能者がこう言われる。「わたしはアルファであり、オメガである」（黙示録 1:7-8 JSS2017）。「わたしは生きている──主のことば──。すべての膝は、わたしに向かってかがめられ、すべての舌は、神に告白する」（ローマ14:11 JSS2017）。

Joh 19:19-20 NIV84  Pilate had a notice prepared and fastened to the cross. It read: JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS. 20 Many of the Jews read this sign, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and the sign was written in Aramaic, Latin and Greek.

Observation

Jesus is condemned by Roman justice (injustice), and his crime is written over his cross, “Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews.”  The Jewish priests wanted Pilate to change it to, “This man said, ‘I am the King of the Jews’”.  But Jesus in his earthly life and ministry never made such a claim, even before Pilate (see John 18:33-36).  When Pilate asked the Jews, “Shall I crucify your King?” they answered, “We have no king but Caesar.” (Their hatred of Jesus was even greater than their hatred of Rome.)  Pilate in refusing to change the inscription, not only did so to spite the Jews but also as a warning to anyone who might try to challenge the authority and power of Rome.  But this was about more than whether or not He was the King of the Jews.  Jesus was not only King of the Jews but, Paul declared what the early Christians believed, “To the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.”(1Tim 1:17 ESV).  And then, “He (Jesus Christ, see v.14) who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords.” (1Tim 6:15 ESV). Revelations reveals Jesus Christ in his final return, as the King of Kings and Lord of lords.  “He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God. 16 On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.” (Rev 19:13,16 ESV).  Whether or not Pilate really knew what he was writing, he was making a prophetic declaration.  Ultimately Jesus Christ is return not only as King of the Jews but of all nations, kindreds, tribes and people: “Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen. 8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.” (Rev 1:7-8 ESV). “For it is written, “As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.” (Rom 14:11 ESV).
