ヨハネ19:35-37（新改訳JSS2017）　これを目撃した者が証ししている。それは、あなたがたも信じるようになるためである。その証しは真実であり、その人は自分が真実を話していることを知っている。これらのことが起こったのは、「彼の骨は、一つも折られることはない」とある聖書が成 就するためであり、また聖書の別のところで、「彼らは自分たちが突き刺した方を仰ぎ見る」と言われているからである。

コメント

ヨハネがこの福音書を書かれた目的：「これらのことが書かれたのは、イエスが神の子キリストであることを、あなたがたが信じるためであり、また信じて、イエスの名によっていのちを得るためである」（ヨハネ20:31 JSS2017）。十二弟子の中で、ヨハネだけがイエスが十字架につけられ、死なれたのを自分の目で見られたのです。その光景は目に焼き付けられ、忘れることはできなかったでしょう。その時、何が目の前で起きているのかをどこまで理解したのかは分かりません。しかし、後にはこれらのことは鮮明に悟るようになりました。そして、自分は目撃証人として、正確な証言をしていると言っています。でも、もっと重要なのはその時、見られたことは多くの旧約聖書の預言の成就でもあったことです。ヨハネはここで、その二つだけ取り上げています。「彼の骨は、一つも折られることはない」（詩篇34:20；出エジプト記 12:46；　民数記 9:12 など参照）。もう一つは、「彼らは自分たちが突き刺した方を仰ぎ見る」（ゼカリヤ 12:10参照）。ヨハネはこの二つの預言と成就は、自分の目の前で起きたことによって、イエスこそ真のメシヤであることを証言していると言っています。この方にこそ私たちが信頼し、信じることによって救われると言っています。これがこの福音書の言うとしていることです。後にヨハネは手紙の中でこのように言いました。「神の御子を信じる者は、その証しを自分のうちに持っています。神を信じない者は、神を偽り者としています。神が御子について証しされた証 言を信じていないからです。その証しとは、神が私たちに永遠のいのちを与えてくださったということ、そして、そのいのちが御子のうちにあるということです。御子を持つ者はいのちを持っており、神の御子を持たない者はいのちを持っていません」（1ヨハネ5：10-12 JSS2017）。

Joh 19:35-37 NLT  (This report is from an eyewitness giving an accurate account. He speaks the truth so that you also can believe.) 36 These things happened in fulfillment of the Scriptures that say, “Not one of His bones will be broken,” 37 and “They will look on the One they pierced.”

Observation

The reason John wrote this gospel: “But these are written so that you may continue to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing in Him you will have life by the power of His name.” (John 20:31 NLT).  John is the only one of the twelve disciples who actually watched Jesus’ crucifixion and death.  I am sure that scene was seared into his visual memory.  How much did he understand what he was seeing as he watched, we do not know.  But as everything came into clear focus later, John testifies that he gives an accurate eyewitness account.  But even more important is that what he saw was the literal fulfillment of many Scriptures of the OT.  He quotes two of them here.  “Not one of His bones will be broken.” (see Psa 34:20; Exo 12:46; Num 9:12). And the other, “They shall look on him whom they have pierced.” (Zech 12:10).  John uses these to two prophecies and the fulfilment that took place before his eyes, as proof that Jesus is truly the Messiah, the Son of God in whom we can believe and put our trust. That is the whole point of the Gospel of John. John then tells us in his first letter, “Whoever believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. Whoever does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has borne concerning his Son. 11 And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.” (1John 5:10-12 ESV)
