民数記 2:2 （新改訳JSS2017）　「イスラエルの子らは、それぞれ自分たちの旗のもと、自分の一族の旗じるしのもとに宿営しなければならない。会見の天幕の周りに、距離をおいて宿営しなければならない。

イスラエルの子らは部族ごとに幕屋の周りに指定された位置に宿営するように指示されました。レビ側の3家族とアロンの家は幕屋の一番近くに宿営しました（民数記 1:52-53参照）。この周りに12部族が4つに区分され（三部族こと）、宿営しました。一番大きな区分はユダ、イッサカルとゼブルンの諸部族でした。彼らは幕屋の東側（入口側）に宿営し186,400人でした（2-9節参照）。次の区分はルベン、シメオンとガド諸部族でした。彼らは幕屋の南側に宿営するように指定されました。その総人数は151,450でした（10-16節参照）。西側にはエフライム、マナセとベニヤミンの諸部族でした。これが最も少ない区分で総人数108,100人でした（18-24節参照）。最後に、北側にはダン、アシェルとナフタリ諸部族でした。その総人数は157,000人でした（25-31節参照）。非常に興味深いことがここで見えてきます。高台から幕屋の周りのイスラエイル部族の宿営を見ますと十字架の形になっています（添付ファイルを参照）。神はいつも意図的に、意義を持って物事を計画し、デザインもされます。パウロは言いました。「十字架のことばは、滅びる者たちには愚かであっても、救われる私たちには神の力です」（１コリント 1:18 JSS2017）。私たちはどの「部族」に属していても、キリストの十字架によって、一つの群れ、体、共同体とされています。キリスト者であれば、少なくとも、十字架にあって私たちは一致を見出すことができるはずです。

Num 2:2 ESV “The people of Israel shall camp each by his own standard, with the banners of their fathers’ houses. They shall camp facing the tent of meeting on every side.

Observation

The children of Israel were instructed to camp according to their tribes in assigned locations around the Tabernacle. The three clans of the Levites and the priests (House of Aaron) were stationed immediately around the Tabernacle (see Num 1:52-52).  But beyond this the 12 tribes of Israel were divided into 4 divisions (each with 3 tribes). The largest division was that of Judah, Issachar and Zebulun, totaling 186,400. They were positioned to the east facing the entrance of the Tabernacle (see v.2-9).  The next division of tribes, Reuben, Simeon and Gad, were to camp on the south side of the Tabernacle. They totaled 151,450 (see v.10-16) . On the west side was the division of Ephraim along with Manasseh and Benjamin.  This was the smallest division with only 108,100 (see v.18-24). Then finally on the north side were the tribes of  Dan, Asher and Naphtali.  They totaled 157,600 (see v.25-31). Here is an interesting observation. If this encampment of Israel’s tribes around the Tabernacle were to be seen from above, it would form a cross (see attached illustration).  God’s design is always purposeful and meaningful.  Paul said, “For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” (1Cor 1:18 ESV) No matter what “tribe” we are from, we find unity and community in the Cross of Jesus Christ.
