民数記 9:15-16 （新改訳JSS2017）　幕屋が設営された日、雲が、あかしの天幕である幕屋をおおった。それは、夕方には幕屋の上にあって朝まで火のようであった。16いつもこのようであって、昼は雲がそれをおおい、夜は火のように見えた。

神の臨在は目に見える、日中は雲の柱として、夜中は火の柱としてモーセの幕屋とイスラエルの全宿営の上に現わされました。この雲はイスラエルの民を導かれただけではなく、彼らを守らりました。日中は砂漠の日射と熱さから、夜間は厳しい寒さから守り、灯りと温かさを与えました。この雲はまた、目に見える形として、彼らを導かれました。先に進む時と、とどまって宿営するときを明らかに示されました。主なる神は私たちの羊飼いとして、人生の荒野の中を導き守られることを約束されました（詩篇80:1-3参照）。「昼は雲で彼らを導かれた。夜は　夜通し炎の光で」（詩篇78:14 JSS2017）。「主は　雲を広げて仕切りの幕とし夜には火を与えて照らされた」（詩篇105:39 JSS2017）。イザヤもこのように言いました。「主は、シオンの山のすべての場所とその会合の上に、昼には雲を、夜には煙と燃え立つ火の輝きを創造される。それはすべての栄光の上に覆いとなり、その仮庵は昼に暑さを避ける陰となり、嵐と雨から逃れる避け所、また隠れ家となる」（イザヤ4:5-6 JSS2017）。私たちは神の臨在の現れが見えても、見えなくても、共にいてくださることを約束され、私たちも導き、守られます（詩篇23:2-4参照）。「わたしが──主のことば──それを取り巻く火の城壁となる。わたしがそのただ中で栄光となる」（ゼカリヤ 2:5 JSS2017）。私たちは神の臨在の雲に従うなら、いつも私たちを導いてくださいます。常に、神の臨在の雲に目をとめ、雲が動くときには私たちも共に動きましょう。

Num 9:15-16 NIV84  On the day the tabernacle, the Tent of the Testimony, was set up, the cloud covered it. From evening till morning the cloud above the tabernacle looked like fire. 16 That is how it continued to be; the cloud covered it, and at night it looked like fire.

Observation

God presence was visibly revealed on the Tabernacle of Moses as a cloud by day and pillar of fire by night.  This was the cloud that not only led the Israelites but protected them.  The cloud shielded them from the scorching heat of the desert during the day and gave them warmth and light at night when the desert temperatures would plummet.  Also this cloud was what visibly indicated when God was leading them on and also when He wanted them to stay camped.  The Lord God promises to be our Shepherd to both protect us and lead us in our walk through the desert of life (see Psa 80:1-3).   “He guided them with the cloud by day and with light from the fire all night.” (Psa 78:14 NIV84).  “He spread out a cloud as a covering, and a fire to give light at night.” (Psa 105:39 NIV84).  Isaiah reiterates it this way, “Then the LORD will create over all of Mount Zion and over those who assemble there a cloud of smoke by day and a glow of flaming fire by night; over all the glory will be a canopy. 6 It will be a shelter and shade from the heat of the day, and a refuge and hiding place from the storm and rain.” (Isa. 4:5-6 NIV84).  Whether we can or cannot physically see God presence and glory, He has promised to be with us, protect and guide us though all of our lives (see Psa 23:2-4). “And I myself will be a wall of fire around it,’ declares the LORD, ‘and I will be its glory within.’” (Zech 2:5 NIV84).  If we follow the cloud of his presence, He will lead us and guide us at all times.  Keep watch for the cloud and move with it when it moves.
