Scripture

Mar 12:6  “He had one left to send, a son, whom he loved. He sent him last of all, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’ 7 “But the tenants said to one another, ‘This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.’

Observation

This is Passion Week and we will look at the meaning and significance of it then and how it applies to our lives.  Here is a parable Jesus spoke some time before his crucifixion.  A man planted a vineyard (the Lord God established the nation of Israel to produce good fruit among the other nations of the world; see Psa 80:8-16; Isa 5:1-4 etc.) He then entrusted it to tenant farmers (speaks of the  and nation of Israel as takers of God’s Kingdom; Psa 147:19-20 etc.). At the time of harvest the Owner of the vineyard expected to receive his share of the crop and sent some of his servants to collect his due (God sent multiple prophets and representatives to Israel over a long period of time; see 2Chro 36:15; Jer 25:4 etc.) But the tenant farmers’ response was to not only ignore them, but beat and even kill them (this is exactly what the people of Israel did to his messengers and prophets; see 2Chro 36:16; Neh. 9:26 etc.).  Finally the owner sent his own son saying, “They will respect my son.†(This of course points to the Father God sending his one and only Son; see John 3:16-18; 35-36.)  Jesus then warns, “Haven’t you read this scripture: “‘The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes’?” (v.10-11 NIV84; see Psa 118:22-23). Peter warn us, “For in Scripture it says: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame.” 7 Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe, “The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone,” 8 and, “A stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall.” They stumble because they disobey the message—which is also what they were destined for.†(1Pet 2:6-8 NIV84).  We have also been entrusted with the vineyard of the Kingdom also.  We must also take great care to make sure our lives are built on the solid foundation of Jesus Christ, the cornerstone of the foundation. (see Heb 1:1–2:4). Let’s take care to give the Lord Jesus Christ everything he is due.
How does this apply to you?
