Scripture
Mar 15:9,11-13 ESV And he answered them, saying, “Do you want me to release for you the King of the Jews?” 11 But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to have him release for them Barabbas instead. 12 And Pilate again said to them, “Then what shall I do with the man you call the King of the Jews?” 13 And they cried out again, “Crucify him.”
Observation
The people were given a choice: Jesus or Barabbas. Jesus was total innocent and without sin; Barabbas was a convicted murderer who had taken part in an insurrection. The crowd was stirred up by the chief priests and Jewish leaders chose to free Barabbas and to crucify Jesus. Later, Peter explained what they did. “The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, the God of our fathers, glorified his servant Jesus, whom you delivered over and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he had decided to release him. 14 But you denied the Holy and Righteous One, and asked for a murderer to be granted to you, 15 and you killed the Author of life, whom God raised from the dead. To this we are witnesses.†(Acts 3:13-15 ESV). The reason was, they envied Jesus, NIV says it was out of self-interest. They chose to have a murderer released to them and deny and crucify the one and only Savior, Messiah whom the Lord God and prepared and sent to them. Why would anyone reject Jesus as Savior, Messiah? Only because of self-interest. But ultimately it is not in their interest but leads to their destruction. What is in the way of recognizing and accepting Jesus as Messiah and Lord? It is the only way to be saved. “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved. 13 For “Everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved.†(Rom 10:9-10, 13 NLT).
How does this apply to you?
