マルコ 15:43,46 （新改訳JSS2017）　アリマタヤ出身のヨセフは、勇気を出してピラトのところに行き、イエスのからだの下げ渡しを願い出た。ヨセフは有力な議員で、自らも神の国を待ち望んでいた。46 ヨセフは亜麻布を買い、イエスを降ろして亜麻布で包み、岩を掘って造った墓に納めた。そして、墓の入り口には石を転がしておいた。

コメント

Mar 15:43, 46 ESV Joseph of Arimathea, a respected member of the council, who was also himself looking for the kingdom of God, took courage and went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. 46 And Joseph bought a linen shroud, and taking him down, wrapped him in the linen shroud and laid him in a tomb that had been cut out of the rock. And he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb.

Observation

Jesus shouted, “It is finished” (the work of redemption has been completed and fulfilled, John 19:30) and breathed his last breath.  Joseph of Arimathea requested from Pilate to receive the body of Jesus, took it from the cross, wrapped it in a burial shroud as was the custom and laid Jesus’ body in his own tomb which happened to be nearby.  At this point, none of the disciples, or other followers, including Joseph of Arimathea knew what would happen in just a few days.  The shroud was a long sheet of linen (appro. 4380cm.) which was wrapped around the body of Jesus length-wise.  We know that this linen shroud was left in the tomb when Jesus rose from the dead.  It seems highly likely that it was preserved and passed down through the ages and is now known as the Shroud of Turin.  Much research and effort to prove or disprove its authenticity has been done and the overwhelming evidence seems to indicate that it was indeed the shroud which was used to bury Jesus for his three days in the tomb.  But as we know, Jesus rose from the dead on the third day and is alive forever more.  We do not need the shroud to prove Jesus rose from the dead but it seems to be additional evidence that He indeed bled and died, and rose from the dead on the third day (see 1Cor 15:1-4).  Death is not the end, either for Jesus or for us.  Resurrection day is coming and everything will change.  This is the hope and confidence we have in Jesus Christ, who rose from the dead as the first fruit of the resurrection.  (see https://www.shroud.com/index.htm for research on the Shroud of Turin)
