民数記 16:6-7（リビングバイブルJCB）　あした香炉を持って来て、主にささげる香をたきなさい。そうすれば、主がだれをお選びになったかわかるはずだ。レビの子たちよ、あなたがたこそ分を越えている。」

あるレビ人とルベン族の人たちは神ご自身がイスラエルを導き、神の前で代表するものとしてお立てになられたモーセとアロンに対して立ち上がりました。彼らの言い分はイスラエル全体が神の選びの者であり、聖別された者であると主張しました。ゆえに、モーセとアロンだけが他の人々の上に立って権威を取ることは行きすぎだと言いました。ここには一部の真理はあり、確かに神の民は聖なる者であり聖別されていますが（出エジプト記 19:6; レビ記11:45;19:2など参照）、神はある者を指導者の立場に任命されます。それは彼らが優れているから、より聖なる者であるから、もっと重要なものであるかなどを意味しません。神の使命と働きのために整えられているためです。モーセはそのレビ人に言って思い出させました。神は彼らこそ特別にイスラエルの他の部族から選び出し、神に、神の幕屋に仕える者とされました。しかし、このレビ人たちはそれを不満に思い、さらに、神がアロンとその子らに与えられた祭司職をも預かりたいと言い出したのです。そこで、モーセは彼らに言いました。「レビの子らよ。あなたがたが分を超えているのだ」（7節）。これから見ますように、神はこの反乱を軽く見られません、そして、適切なを取処理を取られました。モーセはその反面、自分を弁護しようとせず、全ての判断を神ご自身に任せました。神は秩序と権威を定められ、ご自分の民を指導し、その働きと目的を果せるように指導者を立てられるのです（ローマ13:1‐2； ヘブル13:17； 1コリント12:27-28など参照）。神が定めた権威を敬うべきですが、最終的な権威は主なる神ご自身にあることを忘れてはなりません。

Num 16:6-7 NLT  “Korah, you and all your followers must prepare your incense burners. 7 Light fires in them tomorrow, and burn incense before the LORD. Then we will see whom the LORD chooses as His holy one. You Levites are the ones who have gone too far!”

Observation

Some Levites and Reubenites rose up against Moses and Aaron whom God had specifically called and chosen to lead the people of Israel and to be their representatives before the Lord.  Their argument was that all of God’s people are chosen and set apart to the Lord as holy.  Therefore, it is not right for Moses and Aaron to take on authority above and beyond all of the rest.  Although there is a truth here that all of God’s people are holy and set apart (see Exo 19:6; Lev 11:45; 19:2 etc.), yet God also choses and sets apart specific individuals for leadership among the people; but not because they are better or more holy or somehow more important.  It has to do with calling and equipping for the role he chooses.  Moses reminds the Levites that God even chose them from the tribes of Israel to have a special place and ministry.  Yet, these Levites wanted more, they wanted the priesthood which God had given to Aaron and his son.  Moses responds to them by saying, “You Levites have gone too far.” (v.7)  As we will see, the Lord does not look lightly on rebellion and insolence against his anointed leaders, and he will deal with them.  Moses, however, does not try to defend himself but rather leaves it in God’s hands.  God has established order and authority to help his people accomplish their calling and purpose (see Rom 13:1-2; Heb 13:17; 1Cor 12:27-28).  Let’s honor the authority that God has established but always remember that the highest authority is the Lord God himself.
