民数記 16:41-42 （新改訳 JSS2017）　その翌日、イスラエルの全会衆は、モーセとアロンに向かって不平を言った。「あなたがたは主の民を殺した。」会衆がモーセとアロンに逆らって結集したとき、二人が会見の天幕の方を振り向くと、見よ、雲がそれをおおい、主の栄光が現れた。

イスラエルの人々はそれでも神に対する恐れがありません。明らかな教訓を受けとめていません。主なる神は聖なる方、義なる方、いかなる状況の中にあっても私たちの信仰と信頼は神に置かなければなりません。すべての不従順と反抗の根は不信仰にあります。民の反乱に対する神のさばきを見ながらも、それでも不平と文句を言い続けて、モーセとアロンを訴えました。「あなたがたは主の民を殺した。」彼らはさばきを受けた方々と同じ心、霊を持っていることを現しています。そこで、神は宿営の中で疫病をもって打ち始めました。アロンはすぐに火皿に香を入れ、民の間の死んだものと生きている者の間を走りましたとりなしましたが、結果的に、14万7千人がまた死にました（46-48節参照）。パウロは新約の中で、私たちにも警告し、これらのことから教訓を得なければならないと言っています。「また、彼らのうちのある人たちがしたように、不平を言ってはいけません。彼らは滅ぼす者によって滅ぼされました。11これらのことが彼らに起こったのは、戒めのためであり、それが書かれたのは、世の終わりに臨んでいる私たちへの教訓とするためです。12ですから、立っていると思う者は、倒れないように気をつけなさい」（1コリント 10:10-12 JSS2017; 詩篇106:24-26も参照）。神は不平やつぶやきをいかに真剣に受けとめられているかをよく心得なければなりません。それは神ご自身と神の御性質に対する訴えであります。パウロはまた別の所にも言いました。「すべてのことを、不平を言わずに、疑わずに行いなさい。それは、あなたがたが、非難されるところのない純真な者となり、また、曲がった邪悪な世代のただ中にあって傷のない神の子どもとなり．．．」　ピリピ2:14-15 JSS2017）。

Num 16:41-42 NIV84 The next day the whole Israelite community grumbled against Moses and Aaron. “You have killed the LORD’s people,” they said. 42 But when the assembly gathered in opposition to Moses and Aaron and turned toward the Tent of Meeting, suddenly the cloud covered it and the glory of the LORD appeared.

Observation

The people of Israel still have no fear of God.  They have not learned the lesson that should have been obvious: The Lord God is holy and righteous and our faith and trust should be in Him no matter our circumstances.  Unbelief is at the root of all disobedience and rebellion.  Even though they have seen the result of God’s judgement on rebellion, they still continue to grumble and complain against Moses and Aaron and even accused them, “You have killed the Lord’s people.” They show themselves to be of the same heart and spirit as those who were judged.  Now the Lord causes a plague to break out in the camp and another 14,700 people die before Aaron takes a censor and runs through the camp between the living and the dead, interceding for them (see v.46-48). Paul tells us we should learn from these OT examples.  “And do not grumble, as some of them did—and were killed by the destroying angel. 11 These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the fulfillment of the ages has come. 12 So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall!” (1Co 10:10-12 NIV84; see also Psa 106:24-26) We must recognize how seriously God looks at grumbling and complaining.  It is an attack on God himself and his character.  Paul again challenges us, “Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe.” (Phil 2:14-15 NIV84).
