民数記 19:11-12（新改訳JSS2017）　死人に触れる者は、それがどの人のものであれ、七日間汚れる。12その者は三日目と七日目に、先の水で身の汚れを除いて、きよくなる。三日目と七日目に身の汚れを除かなければ、きよくならない。

聖さときよめの律法はイスラエルの人々にとって、重大のことでした。なぜなら、神は聖なるお方、きよいお方であり、きよめられた者、聖いもののみが御前に近づくことができました。主ははっきりと言いました。「身の汚れを除かないものはみな、主の幕屋を汚す」（13節参照）。結局、罪が私たちを汚すのです（マタイ23:27-28; マルコ7:20-23参照）。新約において主なる神は同じ聖なる、きよい神でありますが、キリストの十字架による贖いの御業のゆえに、きよめの手段が変わりました。今、きよめは二つの方法によって成し遂げられます。まずは、イエス・キリストの血によって私たちはきよめられるのです（1ヨハネ 1:7-9参照。それから、神のことばの洗いによってきよめられるのです（ヨハネ15:3; エペソ5:26など参照）。神は新しい方法で人々をきよめる時が来るとエゼキエルは預言しました。「わたしがきよい水をあなたがたの上に振りかけるそのとき、あなたがたはすべての汚れからきよくなる。わたしはすべての偶像の汚れからあなたがたをきよめ、26あなたがたに新しい心を与え、あなたがたのうちに新しい霊を与える。わたしはあなたがたのからだから石の心を取り除き、あなたがたに肉の心を与える。27わたしの霊をあなたがたのうちに授けて、わたしの掟に従って歩み、わたしの定めを守り行うようにする。28あなたがたは、わたしがあなたがたの先祖に与えた地に住み、あなたがたはわたしの民となり、わたしはあなたがたの神となる」（エゼキエル 36:25-28 JSS2017）。内側からきよくされるのです。へブル書ではこのように教えられています。「心に血が振りかけられて、邪悪な良心をきよめられ、からだをきよい水で洗われ、全き信仰をもって真心から神に近づこうではありませんか」（へブル10:22 JSS2017）。

Num 19:11-12 NIV84  “Whoever touches the dead body of anyone will be unclean for seven days. 12 He must purify himself with the water on the third day and on the seventh day; then he will be clean. But if he does not purify himself on the third and seventh days, he will not be clean.

Observation

The laws of purity and purification were an integral part of the lives of the Israelites. Because God is a holy and pure God, only that which has been purified and is clean can approach him.  The Lord specifically says, “anyone and fails to purify himself defiles the LORD’s tabernacle.” The ultimate defilement is that of sin (see Matt 23:27-28; Mark 7:20-23 etc.) In the NT the Lord God is the same Holy and Pure God, but the means of purification have been changed because of Christ’s redemption on the cross.  There are two specific means by which we are to be made clean; the blood of Jesus (see 1 John 1:7-9), and the Word of God (see John 15:3; Eph 5:26 etc.). Ezekiel prophecies about a time when God himself would make his people clean by a different way, “I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. 26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. 28 You will live in the land I gave your forefathers; you will be my people, and I will be your God.” (Ezek 36:25-28 NIV84).  We are made holy from within.  Hebrews tells us, “Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.” (Heb 10:22 NIV84).
