民数記 22:12 (新改訳JSS2017)　 神はバラムに言われた。「あなたは彼らと一緒に行ってはならない。また、その民をのろってもいけない。その民は祝福されているのだから。」

神はイスラエルを約束の地に入ることができるところに導かれました。モアブとミデアンは隣接する二つの国ですが、イスラエルの大軍を見て、おどろき、おののき、自分たちの地まで占領されるのではないかと恐れました(ところが、イスラエルは彼らの地ではなく、カナンの地、約束の地を目指していました)。目の前でイスラエルは攻めてこられた二人の王（サイホンとオグ）とその軍隊が滅ぼされました。軍事力だけでは立ち向かえることができないことが分かりました。そこで、名の知られている霊能者に使いたちを送り、バラムに来て、イスラエルを呪うようにとお願いしました(6節参照)。しかし、神はバラムに現れて、明確に言いました。「あなたは彼らと一緒に行ってはならない。また、その民をのろってもいけない。その民は祝福されているのだから。」みことばを通して、祝福されている者はだれであるかを教えています。まず、イスラエルは、神が約束され、祝福されたアブラハムの子孫でありました。「そうすれば、わたしはあなたを大いなる国民とし、あなたを祝福し、あなたの名を大いなるものとする。あなたは祝福となりなさい。わたしは、あなたを祝福する者を祝福し、あなたを呪う者をのろう。地のすべての部族は、あなたによって祝福される」(創世記 12:2-3 JSS2017)。詩篇で宣言されています。「幸いなことよ(祝福された者よ)　このようになる民は。幸いなことよ　主を自らの神とする民は」（詩篇144:15 JSS2017）。また、「幸いなことよ　ヤコブの神を助けとしその神　主に望みを置く人」（詩篇146:5 JSS2017）。ダビデは告白しました。「幸いなことよ　その背きを赦され　罪をおおわれた人は。幸いなことよ　主が咎をお認めにならず　その霊に欺きがない人は」（詩篇32:1-2 JSS2017；ローマ4:6-7も参照）。イエスも、だれが祝福されているのか（幸いであるか）を山上の垂訓で教えています（マタイ5:2-12参照）。パウロはこのように教えています。「私たちの主イエス・キリストの父である神がほめたたえられますように。神はキリストにあって、天上にあるすべての霊的祝福をもって私たちを祝福してくださいました」（エペソ 1:3 JSS2017）。私たちは主の民であれば、また、主をわれらの神とするなら、祝福された、幸いなものです。

Num 22:12 ESV God said to Balaam, “You shall not go with them. You shall not curse the people, for they are blessed.”

Observation

God has led Israel and now positioned her to prepare to enter and take the Promised Land that God has promised to give them.  Moab and Midian, two nations that are fearful of what Israel might do and that they would overrun their land.  They had just seen Israel defeat two powerful kings, Sihon and Og (see Num 21) who had come out against them. They knew that mere military strength would not be enough to defeat them.  So they sent for a medium with a renowned reputation.  They request that Balaam come to curse the people of Israel, so that they could defeat them (see v.6). But the Lord God appears to Balaam and specifically tells him, “You shall not go with them. You shall not curse the people, for they are blessed.”  Many scriptures tell us what kind of people are blessed.  First and foremost, Israel is the descendant of Abraham to whom God declared, “And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” (Gen 12:2-3 ESV).  Psalms proclaims, “Blessed are the people to whom such blessings fall! Blessed are the people whose God is the LORD!” (Psa 144:15 ESV).  “Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God.” (Psa 146:5 ESV).  David declares, “Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.” (Psa 32:1 ESV; see also Rom 4:6-7). Jesus also taught about who was blessed in God’s kingdom (see Matt 5:2-12 The Beatitudes).  Paul tells us, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places.” (Eph 1:3 ESV). We are blessed if the Lord is our God and we are his people.
