民数記 22:18-19 （新改訳JSS2017）　しかし、バラムはバラクの家臣たちに答えた。「たとえバラクが銀や金で満ちた彼の家をくれても、私は私の神、主の命を破ることは、事の大小にかかわらず、断じてできません。19ですから、あなたがたもまた、今晩ここにとどまりなさい。主が私に何かほかのことをお告げくださるかどうか、確かめましょう。」

コメント

バラムは神の最初の指示によって、バラクの使者たちと共に行くことが神の御心ではないことを分かっていましたが、彼らの必死の願いと、さらに大きな報いに心が誘われていました。主なる神にもう一度伺ったら、思いを変えてくれて、その報いを受けることができるかもしれないと考えました。バラムのように、私たちは時に、主と交渉して、私たちの願い、個人的に求めているものを手に入れるために神が思い直してくれるか、許してくれるかを求めようとします。バラムは非常に、危険な道に歩もうとしています。神はバラムの心と思いを知っておられ、それを明らかにして、ロバの語る言葉で厳しく警告しました。神はバラムの注意をひいてその歩もうとしている道の危険を、そして、その選択、判断に恐ろしい結果もあることを警告しています。詩篇も最初から警告しました。「なんと幸いでしょう。悪者のたくらみに耳を貸したり、罪人といっしょになって神のことをさげすんだりしない人は。2その人は、主がお望みになることを何でも喜んで行い、いつも、主の教えを思い巡らしては、もっと主のみそばを歩もうと考えます」（詩篇1:1-2 JCB）。イエスも教えています。「神を第一とし、神が望まれるとおりの生活をしなさい。そうすれば、必要なものは、神が与えてくださいます」（マタイ 6:33 JCB）。そしていかにして神の御心を求めて歩むべきかを現してくださいました。詩篇はまたこのように教えています。「わが神よ　私は　あなたのみこころを行うことを喜びとします。あなたのみおしえは　私の心のうちにあります」（詩篇40:8 JCB； 申命記 10:12も参照）。主の道と御心の内に常に歩むように心がけましょう。

Num 22:18-19 ESV  But Balaam answered and said to the servants of Balak, “Though Balak were to give me his house full of silver and gold, I could not go beyond the command of the LORD my God to do less or more. 19 So you, too, please stay here tonight, that I may know what more the LORD will say to me.”

Observation

Balaam, is aware of God’s original command not to go with Balak’s messengers, but continues to be enticed by their offer. He goes to God perhaps hoping for another answer or that God would say something that would allow him to go and receive Balak’s reward.  Like Balaam, we sometimes seek to negotiate with God for His approval while still pursuing our own desires. What God wants is our wholehearted and full obedience. God does not change his mind because we negotiate or try to manipulate him into our desires and personal pursuits.  Balaam is walking in very precarious and dangerous area.  God sees and knows Balaam’s heart and exposes it and warns him severely by using a talking donkey (see v.27-30).  Balaam is so angry that the donkey is not letting him go in his own personal stubborn ways, that he even talks back to the donkey. God is trying to get Balaam’s attention and warn him of the dire consequences of his choices and decisions. David warns us, “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; 2 but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night.” (Psa 1:1-2 ESV).  Jesus challenged us, “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Matt 6:33 ESV). Jesus showed us what it looks like to always seek after God’s will and heart and to diligently walk in it.  Psalms describes it this way, “I delight to fulfill your will, my God, for your living words are written upon the pages of my heart.” (Psa 40:8 TPT). Let us always seek to know and fulfill God’s will for ultimately it is the only way that will be fully blessed (see Deut 10:12).
