Scripture
Num 28:2 NLT “Give these instructions to the people of Israel: The offerings you present as special gifts are a pleasing aroma to Me; they are My food. See to it that they are brought at the appointed times and offered according to My instructions.
Observation
In the OT the way that one was to approach the Lord God was through sacrifice and offerings. There were specific offerings that were to be offered for various situations, Burnt Offering, Sin Offering, Fellowship Offering, Meal Offering, etc., but here the Lord instructs the people to bring offerings apart from these, on a regular scheduled basis. There were to be morning and evening offerings on a daily basis. There were to be Sabbath offerings offered weekly. And Monthly offerings offered on the first day of the month (New Moon). These regular scheduled offerings might seem to be just tedious, ritual offerings, but they are very important in maintaining a living relationship with the Lord. God met with and responded to his people often when these regular scheduled offerings were offered. We should establish regular, routine times of coming before the Lord our God in worship, prayer, meditation, reading scripture etc. It keeps the lines of communication and fellowship open so that we can come at any time with our needs and worship. “O LORD, I am calling to You. Please hurry! Listen when I cry to You for help! 2 Accept my prayer as incense offered to You, and my upraised hands as an evening offering.†(Psa 141:2 NLT). In another place David says, “I will praise You seven times a day because all Your regulations are just.†(Psa 119:164 NLT). “But I will call on God, and the LORD will rescue me. 17 Morning, noon, and night I cry out in my distress, and the LORD hears my voice.†(Psa 55:16-17 NLT). Our gathering together is also an expression of our sacrifice and offering to the Lord. Hebrews challenges us, “And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of His return is drawing near.†(Heb 10:25 NLT). Also, “Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name. 16 But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.†(Heb 13:15-16 NLT). Let’s develop a regular habit of offering our sacrifices to the Lord.
