Scripture
Psa 88:1-3 NLT O LORD, God of my salvation, I cry out to You by day. I come to You at night. 2 Now hear my prayer; listen to my cry. 3 For my life is full of troubles, and death draws near.
Observation
This is one of the darkest and lowest Psalms. There is almost no hope or bright spots. Usually most Psalms even if they begin despondent or in darkness eventually turn around and find hope in God and his goodness. But not this Psalm.  Sometimes in life there seems to be no hope, and nothing is turning around to give comfort. It is okay to pour out our honest heart even when we do not have anything positive to say or cry out. And yet this psalmist knows where to go. He pours out his heart to the “Lord God of my salvation.†When we see nothing but darkness and hopelessness yet there is always the Lord God of my salvation that we can turn to. The very reason this Psalm is among the Psalms is because there is a God who hears us and listens to our cry even in our darkest times and when there seems to be no other hope. But we must never forget this is not the only Psalm, there are others that can show us the way even when everything seems dark. Here is another Psalm to remember when we are at this point. “Do not turn Your back on me. Do not reject Your servant in anger. You have always been my helper. Don’t leave me now; don’t abandon me, O God of my salvation! 10 Even if my father and mother abandon me, the LORD will hold me close.†(Psa 27:9-10 NLT)
