1テモテ1:15-16（リビングバイブル JCB）　「キリスト・イエスは、罪人を救うためにこの世に来てくださった」ということばは真実で、そのとおり受け入れるべきものです。私は、その罪人の中でも筆頭格の人間です。 16それにもかかわらず、神は私をあわれんでくださいました。キリスト・イエスは、どうにも手がつけられない罪人に対してさえ寛容を示して、私のような者を選ばれたのです。それによって、だれでも永遠のいのちを持つ希望が与えられるのです。

私たちは恵みのゆえのみに救われ、それはキリストイエスに対する信仰によってのみです（信じて受け入れること　エペソ2:8参照）。パウロは自分こそ最も罪深い人間であるのに神はあわれんでくださり、忍耐を持って救いに導かれたと告白しています。また、パウロはローマのキリスト者に書き送りました「私たちは、自分の罪深さを知れば知るほど、赦してくださる神の満ちあふれる恵みが、いっそうわかるようになるのです」（ローマ5:20 JCB；　「罪の増し加わるところに、恵みも満ちあふれました」 JSS2017）。私たちの罪はどれほどひどくても、どれほど悪くても、神の恵みはそれをおい消し、父なる神との正しい関係に導き入れることができます。そして、それこそが神の願いなのです。パウロは言っています。「私のような者を選ばれたのです。それによって、だれでも永遠のいのちを持つ希望が与えられるのです」（JCB）。私たちが神の愛と恵みに応答し受け入れる時に、なにも私たちを神から引き離せるものはありません。私たちが何をしたか、どのようなものであるかではなく、神がどのような方で、私たちのために何をなされたかが重要なのです。「こんなにすばらしい恵みに対して、いったい何と言ったらよいでしょう。神が味方なら、だれが私たちに敵対できるでしょうか。 32神は私たちすべてのために、たった一人の御子さえ惜しまずに、死に渡されたほどのお方ですから、ほかのすべてのものをも下さらないわけがあるでしょうか。 33神がご自分のものとして選ばれた私たちを訴えるのはだれですか。神ですか。とんでもない。神は私たちを赦し、義としてくださった方ではありませんか。 34では、私たちを罪に定めるのはだれですか。キリストですか。とんでもない。キリストは私たちのために死に、復活し、今は神の右の座で、私たちのために祈っていてくださるお方ではありませんか」（ローマ8：31-34 JCB）。

1Ti 1:15-16 NLT This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it: “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners”—and I am the worst of them all. 16 But God had mercy on me so that Christ Jesus could use me as a prime example of his great patience with even the worst sinners. Then others will realize that they, too, can believe in him and receive eternal life.

Observation

We are saved by God’s grace alone, but it is through faith in Christ Jesus (believing and receiving it. See Eph 2:8)  Paul is confessing that he was one of the worst sinners of all and yet God showed him mercy and patience to bring him to salvation.  Paul tells the Romans, “But where sin increased and abounded, grace (God’s unmerited favor) has surpassed it and increased the more and superabounded,” (Rom 5:20 AMP).  No matter how bad or deep your sin is, God’s grace is sufficient to cover it and bring you back into right relationship with Father God. And this is exactly what he desires to do. Paul is saying look at himself, “God has mercy on me…as a prime example of his great patience with even the worst sinners.”  There is nothing that can separate us from God when we respond to and accept His love and grace for us.  It is not about us or what we did but about God and what Jesus Christ did for us. “What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? 32 Since He did not spare even His own Son but gave Him up for us all, won’t He also give us everything else? 33 Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for His own? No one—for God Himself has given us right standing with Himself. 34 Who then will condemn us? No one—for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and He is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, pleading for us.” (Rom 8:31-34 NLT).
