エゼキエル 1:16-18（新改訳JSS2017）　それらの輪の形と作りは、輝く緑柱石のようで、四つともよく似ていた。それらの形と作りは、ちょうど、輪の中に輪があるようであった。17それらは四方のどの方向にも進み、進むときには向きを変えなかった。18その輪の周りの縁は高さがあって恐ろしく、四つの輪の周りの縁は一面、目で満ちていた。

コメント

エゼキエルは、見ている幻のあり様を説明しようとしています。この地上で見たことのないものを人間のことばで説明しようとしています。四つの生き物もいました（聖書のほかの箇所にも出てくる、特に黙示録、4:6; 6:6など参照）。また、この幻の中で異様な構造物を見ます。「輪の中に輪がる」、ジャイロスコープ（世界ゴマ）のようなものでしょうか。これは曲がらずにどの方向にも進むことができます。そして、その縁には目がいっぱいあった。これらを通して、主なる神の摂理と主権を表されています。神は全知であり、全能であり、遍在であることを表しています。どこにでも行けます。すべてを見られ、全てを知っておられます。また、何でもできるお方です。この幻でわかることは天の領域と、地の領域は継ぎ目のない、一体の存在でることです。このことは黙示録の中にも見られます。天で起こることはこの地上に影響があります（黙示録 5:13; 11:15; 12:1-6,10など参照）。主なる神は天の主権者であり支配者でありますが、私たちの世界の中で起きていることに直接的に関わっています。これらのことを見ながら、エゼキエルは天に御座がありそこにおられるかたを見ました。地面に倒れ、顔を伏しました。そして、天からの声を聞きました（28節）。神は全知であり、全能であり、遍在であることを認めることは大事ですが、最も重要なのは神の語られる声に耳を傾け、聞くことです。「聞く耳のある人は、聖霊が諸教会に言われることを、よく聞きなさい」（黙示録 2:7 JCB）。

Eze 1:16-18 (NLT) The wheels sparkled as if made of beryl. All four wheels looked alike and were made the same; each wheel had a second wheel turning crosswise within it. 17 The beings could move in any of the four directions they faced, without turning as they moved. 18 The rims of the four wheels were tall and frightening, and they were covered with eyes all around.

(MSG) This is what the wheels looked like: They were identical wheels, sparkling like diamonds in the sun. It looked like they were wheels within wheels, like a gyroscope. 17 They went in any one of the four directions they faced, but straight, not veering off. 18 The rims were immense, circled with eyes.

Observation

Ezekiel is trying to describe what he sees in this vision.  It is like nothing he has ever seen on earth and yet he is trying to use human language to describe what he sees.  There are four creatures (which are also seen in other places in the Bible especially in Revelations, see Rev 4:6; 6:6).  Then he sees a configuration that looks like “wheels within wheels”, probably like a gyroscope. This allows them to move in any direction without turning.  They are also full of eyes.  This is indicative of the providence and sovereignty of the Lord God who is Omniscient, Omnipotent and Omnipresent.  He can go anywhere; He sees and knows everything; and He can do anything.  This vision also connects the heavenly realm with the earthly realm.  It is totally and completely seamless.  We also see this in Revelations.  What happens in heaven, has an effect on the earth (Rev 5:13; 11:15; 12:1-6; 12:10 etc.).  The Lord God is Sovereign Ruler in Heaven, but also intimately involved with everything going on in our world.  As Ezekiel is taking all this in, he sees a throne in heaven with the Lord God on the throne.  He falls to his face and hears a voice (see v.28). We must always be aware of the Lord’s Omniscience, Omnipotence, and Omnipresence, but the most important thing is to listen and hear what the Lord is saying. “Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what He is saying…” (Rev 2:7 etc. NLT).
