エゼキエル　3:17 （リビングバイブルJCB）　「人の子よ、わたしはあなたをイスラエルの見張り役とした。わたしの民に与える警告をただちに伝えなさい。

主はエゼキエルをイスラエルの民に対する見張り人となるようにと召されました。見張り人の役とは町の城壁ややぐらに立って、遠くから来られる敵の姿や、危険が迫ってくるのを見つけ、民に警告することです。その主な役割は警告を告げることです。しかし、民もその警告を聞きいれ、応答しなければ、来たる危険をまぬかれないこともあります。だから、見張り人は見張っていなければ、また近づく危険を見つけ警告しなければ、その責任は問われます。しかし、民はその警告を聞きながらも、無視するなら、自分たちの責任を負います。同じように、私たちも神の民の見張り人となるようにと呼ばれています。敵の攻撃や危険が迫ってくるのをいち早く察知して、他の人たちに警告を促すことが私たちの責任です。主はエゼキエルに言いました。「しかしわたしは、あなたと語るときにあなたの口を開く。あなたは彼らに『神である主はこう言われる』と言え。聞く者には聞かせ、聞かない者には聞かせるな。彼らは反逆の家なのだから」（27節 JDB）。イエスも弟子たちに目を覚まし、見張っているようにと言いました。それは危険が迫るのだけではなく、主イエスの帰って来られるのを見受けることができるためです。その来臨は私たちにとって、祝福であり、救いの完成となりますが、主イエスに応答しないものにとってはさばきとなり、滅びとなります。「こんなことにならないために、目を覚まして、いつでもわたしを迎える準備をしていなさい。わたしが来るその日、その時が、いつかわからないのですから」（マタイ25:13 JCB）。まず大切なのは自分自身の生活について、見張っていることです。「誘惑に陥らないように、目を覚まして祈っていなさい。霊は燃えていても肉は弱いのです」（マタイ26:41 JDB）。自分自身のためにも、周りの人々のためにも、主の見張り人となりましょう。

Eze 3:17 NLT  “Son of man, I have appointed you as a watchman for Israel. Whenever you receive a message from Me, warn people immediately.

Observation

The Lord calls Ezekiel to be a watchman for the people of Israel.  A watchman was posted on the walls of a city or in a citadel to observe and warn people of any coming attack or approaching disaster.  His responsibility is to give warning.  But the people must be responsive and take heed to the warning so that they might escape the disaster.  If he is not watching, or if he sees danger approaching and does not give warning, he will be held responsible. But if he does warn the people and they don’t listen, then they are responsible for their own destruction.  In the same way, we have been called to be the Lord’s watchmen, to be watchful for any danger approaching. We are also responsible to give warning where we can.  The Lord tells Ezekiel, “But when I give you a message, I will loosen your tongue and let you speak. Then you will say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says!’ Those who choose to listen will listen, but those who refuse will refuse, for they are rebels.” (v. 27 NLT).  Jesus also called us to be watchful. We are to be watching for His return which will be a blessing and salvation for us, but also judgment and destruction for those who do not respond to the Word of the Lord.  “So you, too, must keep watch! For you do not know the day or hour of My return.” (Matt 25:13 NLT).  The first and foremost is to watch over our own lives.  Jesus warned the disciples, “Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak!” (Matt 26:41 NLT). Let’s be the Lord’s watchmen both for ourselves and for those around us.
