エゼキエル 15:2-5 （リビングバイブルJCB）　「人の子よ。森の中のぶどうの木に、どれだけの価値があるか。ほかの木のように役に立つだろうか。その枝の一本ほどの価値があるだろうか。3いや、ぶどうの木は、食器を掛ける木くぎにさえできない。4役に立つことといえば、たきぎにするぐらいだが、それも、燃えがよくない。5だから、たきぎにして燃やす前も、燃やしたあとも、大して役に立たない。」

コメント

ぶどうの木の枝には一つの役目しかありません。それ幹につながって、実を結ぶことです。幹から離されて何の役にもなりません。他の木のように何かを造ることもできません。剪定され、火に投げ込まれても、たき木としての役目もほとんどありません。イスラエルは神が植えられたぶどうの木にたとえられています（詩篇80:8； イザヤ5:1-2; エレミヤ2:21のど参照）。しかし、イスラエルは役に立たないぶどうの木となり、主人である神のためになんの良い実をも結ばないものとなりました。エゼキエルはこの例をつかって、イスラエルは最初から与えられた目的から離れたので、主が取り扱われたことを描写しています。イエスもこの同じ例をつかって私たちを選ばれたことと、その関係を表わしています。「わたしはぶどうの木で、あなたがたはその枝です。人がわたしのうちに生き、わたしもその人のうちに生きているなら、その人は多くの実を結びます。わたしを離れては何もできません。 6わたしから離れる者はだれでも、役に立たない枝のように投げ捨てられ、枯れてしまいます。最後には、ほかの枝といっしょに積み上げられ、焼かれてしまうのです」（ヨハネ15:5-6 JCB）。最終的に主が願っていることは「あなたがたはわたしが主であることを知る」ことです （エゼキエル 15:7）。私たちの幹である主イエスにつながってその目的を果しましょう。

Is a vine’s wood as useful as the wood of a tree? 3 Can its wood be used for making things, like pegs to hang up pots and pans? 4 No, it can only be used for fuel, and even as fuel, it burns too quickly. 5 Vines are useless both before and after being put into the fire!

Observation

The only purpose of a branch of the grapevine is to be connected to main vine so that it can bear fruit.  Apart from the main vine it is useless for any other purpose, such as making anything from it like other wood. When it is pruned and thrown into the fire, even then it is mostly useless even as firewood.  Israel is described as a vine that God has planted (see Psa. 80:8; Isa 5:1-2; Jer. 2:21 etc.).  But it has become a useless vine, not producing fruit for the Master.  Ezekiel uses this picture to describe what God is doing in judging Israel for turning from and rejected the true purpose for which God created her.  Jesus uses the same imagery when he describes our relationship with him and the purpose for which he has chosen us. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned.” (John 15:5-6 NIV84).  But we must always remember that the final goal is that “you will know that I am the Lord.” (Ezek. 15:7).  Stay connected to Jesus and fulfill his purpose for us. (see John 15:1-17).
