エゼキエル 20:5,7 （新改訳SKY2017）　彼らに言え。『神である主はこう言われる。わたしがイスラエルを選んだとき、わたしはヤコブの家の子孫に誓い、エジプトの地でわたしを彼らに知らせた。彼らに誓って、わたしがあなたがたの神、主であると言った。7わたしは彼らに言った。「それぞれ、その目の慕う忌まわしいものを投げ捨てよ。エジプトの偶像で身を汚すな。わたしがあなたがたの神、主である」と。

コメント

イスラエル長老たちは主のことばをうかがうために預言者エゼキエルのところに来ました（1節参照）。しかし、主は彼らに新しいことばや導きを語らないと言って、彼らが最初に主がイスラエルをエジプトの地から導き出されたときに語ったことばに帰るようにと言いました。その時にこのように語られたのです。「わたしがあなたがたの神、主である」。そして、彼らにどのようなことをされたかを思い起こさせました。「その日、わたしは彼らをエジプトの地から導き出して、わたしが彼らのために探しておいた乳と蜜の流れる地、どの地よりも麗しい地に入れることを彼らに誓った（6節 SKY2017）。さらに、主なる神が彼らに求められたことをも思い出させました。「すべての偶像を捨てよ。わたしこそ、おまえたちの神、主だ。エジプトの神々を拝んで身を汚すようなことをしてはならない」（7節 JCB; 出エジプト記20:2-6; 申命記29:16-18も参照）。その最初に語られたときにも彼らがほかの神々を追い求めるなら、どうなるかを警告されました。「すべての国々は言うであろう。「何のために、主はこの地にこのようなことをされたのか。この激しい燃える怒りは何なのか。」25人々は言うであろう。「それは彼らが、彼らの父祖の神、主が彼らをエジプトの地から導き出したときに結ばれた契約を捨て、26彼らの知らない、また彼らに割り当てられたのでもない、ほかの神々のもとに行って仕え、それらを拝んだからだ。27それで主の怒りがこの地に向かって燃え上がり、この書に記されたすべてののろいが、この地にもたらされたのだ」（申命記 29:24-27 SKY2017）。イスラエルの長老たちは慰めのことばと神が良くしてくださることを確信させることばを求めていました。しかし、神は、最初から語られたことばに帰りなさいと言いました。主のことばと約束は真実であり、決して変わることはありません。変わらなければならないのは私たちです。悔い改めて、主なる神に立ち返り、神がすでに語られたことに従わなければなりません。そうすれば、さらに知るべきことを語ってくださるでしょう。

Eze 20:5,7 (MSG)  Tell them that GOD, the Master, says: “‘On the day I chose Israel, I revealed myself to them in the country of Egypt, raising my hand in a solemn oath to the people of Jacob, in which I said, “I am GOD, your personal God.” 7 “‘At that time I told them, “Get rid of all the vile things that you’ve become addicted to. Don’t make yourselves filthy with the Egyptian no-god idols. I alone am GOD, your God.”

Observation

The elders of Israel came seeking a word from the Lord through Ezekiel the prophet (see v.1).  However, The Lord refused to give them any new word or direction and told them to go back to the original word that the Lord had spoken to Israel when he first brought them out of Egypt.  He had told them, “I am the Lord your God” (MSG – I am God, your personal God.” He went on to describe all that he did for them. “I promised them that I would take them out of the country of Egypt and bring them into a country that I had searched out just for them, a country flowing with milk and honey, a jewel of a country.” (v.6 MSG)  The Lord also told them at the very beginning what he expected from them, “Each of you, get rid of the vile images you have set your eyes on, and do not defile yourselves with the idols of Egypt. I am the LORD your God.”  (v.7 NIV84; see Exo 20:2-6; Deut. 29:16-18).  He had warned them from the beginning and over and over again afterwards what would happen if they followed after other gods. “All the nations will ask: “Why has the LORD done this to this land? Why this fierce, burning anger?” 25 And the answer will be: “It is because this people abandoned the covenant of the LORD, the God of their fathers, the covenant he made with them when he brought them out of Egypt. 26 They went off and worshiped other gods and bowed down to them, gods they did not know, gods he had not given them. 27 Therefore the LORD’s anger burned against this land, so that he brought on it all the curses written in this book.” (Deut. 29:24-27 NIV84).  The elders of Israel wanted a word of comfort and reassurance that God was going to do good things for them, but the Lord told them to go back to the original word God had given Israel.  His Word and promises are true and do not change.  We are the ones that must change, repent, return to the Lord and do what he has told us to do from the beginning. Then He will speak to us whatever else we need to know.
