 エゼキエル 20:30,32（リビングバイブルJCB）　神、主は、知りたがっている。あなたがたも先祖のように身を汚し、偶像を拝み続けるつもりなのか。．．．神である主は語ります。「わたしは生きている。いくら願っても、わたしは何も答えない。 32いくら、回りの国々を見ならって木や石の偶像を拝もうとしても、それはできない。

ユダヤ人は自分たちと先祖たちの偶像礼拝と主に対する反抗のゆえにバビロン捕囚の身になっているのです。彼らは主からの慰めと励ましのことばを求めてエゼキエルのところに来て、主にうかがってほしいと言っています（20:1参照）。しかし、彼らは自分たちの生き方を変えたり、反抗的な生き方や偶像礼拝離れるつもりはありません。エゼキエルは二つの答えを言いました。まず、「わたしは決してあなたがたの求めに応じない」（31節 SKY2017）（悔い改めて、主に立ち帰らない限り）。彼らの答えは、「私たちは、木や石を拝んで、異邦の民、国々の諸族のようになろう」 でした。しかし、主は彼らに言いました。「お前たちが心に思うそのようなことは決して実現しない」（32節 新共同訳）。主に背を向けて、他の異邦の人々のようになろうと思っても、彼らの反抗は主なる神の主権を軽減したり、取って代わることはできません。主はそんなにたやすくあきらめるお方ではありません。ご自分の計画と目的のために私たちを追い続けます。私たちに呼びかけ続けます。「主を求めよ、お会いできる間に。呼び求めよ、近くにおられるうちに。悪しき者は自分の道を、不法者は自分のはかりごとを捨て去れ。主に帰れ。そうすれば、主はあわれんでくださる。私たちの神に帰れ。豊かに赦してくださるから」（イザヤ55:6-7 SKY2017）。そして、彼らに言っています。「わたしの思いは、あなたがたの思いと異なり、あなたがたの道は、わたしの道と異なるからだ。──主のことば──天が地よりも高いように、わたしの道は、あなたがたの道よりも高く、わたしの思いは、あなたがたの思いよりも高い」（イザヤ 55:8-9 SKY2017）。主は私たちのことをこのように言っています。「あなたを創造した方、イスラエルよ、あなたを形造った方が。「恐れるな。わたしがあなたを贖ったからだ。わたしはあなたの名を呼んだ。あなたは、わたしのもの」（イザヤ43:1 SKY2017； マラキ 3:17; １ペテロ 2:9-10,25参照 ）。最後まで、主は私たちを追い続けます。

Eze 20:30,32 (NLT)  “Therefore, give the people of Israel this message from the Sovereign LORD: Do you plan to pollute yourselves just as your ancestors did? Do you intend to keep prostituting yourselves by worshiping vile images?  32 “You say, ‘We want to be like the nations all around us, who serve idols of wood and stone.’ But what you have in mind will never happen.

Observation

The Jews are in captivity in Babylon because of their sins of idolatry and rebellion against the Lord God.  They have come to Ezekiel to give them a word of comfort and encouragement from the Lord.  But they have no desire or intention on changing their ways or forsaking their rebellious and idolatrous ways.  They are saying, “We want to be like the nations all around us, who serve idols of wood and stone.” Ezekiel gives them two words.  “I will tell you nothing” (v.31) (as long as you do not forsake your idols and return your God.) Their response is “We want to be like the nations all around us, who serve idols of wood and stone.” God tells them, “What you have in mind will never happen.” Their rebellion and desire to do as they please apart from the Lord God, will never, can never diminish or supersede God’s sovereignty.  God does not easily give up on us but continues to pursue and work to bring us back to his plan and purpose for our lives.  He keeps calling to us, “Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near…Let him turn to the Lord and he will have mercy on him and to our God, for he will freely pardon.” (Isa 55:6-7 NIV84).  He then reminds us, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways…As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isa 55:8-9 NIV84).  This is what the Lord says about us, “But now, this is what the LORD says— he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.” (Isa 43:1 NIV84; see also Mal 3:17; 1Pet 2:9-10, 25 etc.). The Lord will pursue you to the end.
