エゼキエル 23:2,4 (新改訳 SKY2017)　 「人の子よ、かつて二人の女がいた。同じ母の娘であった。その名は、姉はオホラ、妹はオホリバ。二人はわたしのものとなり、息子や娘たちを産んだ。彼女たちの名のオホラはサマリアのこと、オホリバはエルサレムのことである。

主はエゼキエルにもう一つの描写とたとえをもってイスラエルとユダが行った周りの国々（特に権力者の国）の偶像礼拝と霊的姦淫と浮行を表しています。彼らは二人の姉妹、オホラとオホリバにたとえています。彼らはエジプトの時代からもうすでにこの淫行と姦淫を行われていたと主は言っています。それが最もあらわになったのはシナイ山のもとで金の子牛を造ったときです。姉のオホラは北の王国イスラエルを表しアッシリヤ帝国との同盟を求め、彼らの偶像と関わりました。それがイスラエルの堕落と崩壊につながりました。妹のアホリバ（ユダ）はそれを見習うべきでしたが、そうせず、バビロンの国と同じことをしました。最終的にユダの崩壊と捕囚に至りました。聖書の中では偶像礼拝と姦淫はつなげられています。どちらもその根拠は当然信頼し、満たされるべきもの以外に満足を求めることです。ヤコブはこのように言っています。「あなたがたは、まるでふしだらな妻のようです（節操のない者、浮気者）。この世の快楽に親しむのは、神を敵に回すことです。世の友を求めるなら、神の友にはなれません」（ヤコブ４:4 JCB；黙示録 2:14,20も参照）。しかし、主は私たちに悔い改めて、立ち返ることを常に呼び掛けています。目を覚ませ!イスラエルとユダに起きたことを学べ!「むしろ、自分自身を振り返り、悔い改めて、主に立ち返るべきです」（哀歌 3:40 JCB; ヨエル 2:12-13も参照）。

Eze 23:2,4 (NIV84)  “Son of man, there were two women, daughters of the same mother. 4 The older was named Oholah, and her sister was Oholibah. They were mine and gave birth to sons and daughters. Oholah is Samaria, and Oholibah is Jerusalem.

Observation

The Lord now gives Ezekiel yet another picture and parable to illustrate Israel and Judah’s adulterous and idolatrous attitude and actions with the nations around them and whatever nation came into power. They are here pictured as two sister, Oholah (Aholah) and Oholibah (Aholibah) The Lord says that they were already engaged in prostitution (with idols and political power) in Egypt.  This is clearly exposed when Israel created the golden calf in the wilderness and shows where their heart was from the beginning. The older sister Oholah represents the northern kingdom of Israel which pursued alliances with and the idols of Assyria.  It became their downfall and destruction.  The younger sister Oholibah should have seen what happened to Oholah but she does the same thing with the Babylonians who then ultimately destroy Judah.  Idolatry and adultery are closely linked throughout scripture. It has the same root, looking to someone other than the legitimate one to fulfill your desires and needs.  James says it this way, “You adulterers! Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God.” (Jam 4:4 NLT; see also Rev 2:14,20).  The Lord calls to repent and return to the Lord the one and only true God whom we alone must worship.  Wake up! See what happened to Israel and Judah!  “Instead, let us test and examine our ways. Let us turn back to the LORD.” (Lam 3:40 NLT; see also Joel 2:12-13).
