ローマ　7:4,6（リビングバイブル JCB）　同様に、かつて律法は、あなたがたの「夫」すなわち主人でした。しかし、あなたがたはキリストと共に十字架上で死んだのですから、律法との婚姻関係は解消されました。もう律法に支配されることはありません。そして、キリストの復活と同時に、あなたがたも復活し、新しい人になりました。今は、死者の中から復活された方と結ばれているのです。それは、神のために良い実を結ぶためです。 6しかし、それらに捕らえられていた私たちは死んだのですから、今は文字による律法にわずらわされる必要はなく、新しい御霊によって神に仕えているのです。

パウロは前の章では私たちの罪との関係を説明して、キリストが私たちのために死なれたときに、私たちを贖われただけではなく、また、父なる神と和解されただけではなく、私たちはキリストと共に死なれたことによって、もはや罪の支配と力からも解放されたのです。しかし、ここでもう一歩先に進んでいます。罪の力に対して死なれただけではなく、律法とその要求からも解かれたのです。これを夫と結婚関係のように、律法によって誠実な妻でなければならないと言うことのです。他の男と結婚したり、関係を結んだら、姦淫の女となるのです。でも、夫が死んだら、他の者と再婚しても、律法は破られません。パウロはもう一度、私たちがキリストと共に死なれたことを示しています。私たちはキリストと共に死なれたときに、罪の性質と力に対して死んだだけではなく、律法の支配下からも解かれていると言っているのです。（これは完璧な類比ではないことを覚えておきましょう。）私たちはキリストと共に死んだことによって、律法の要求から解かれているのです。ゆえに律法を文字通りに守ることから解放されて、律法の霊を守ることができるのです。それは主なる神を、心を尽くし、霊を尽くし、思いを尽くし、力を尽くして愛することであり、隣人を私たち自身と同じように愛することです（マルコ 12:30-31など参照）。パウロはこれを「新しい御霊によって仕える（生きる）」ことと言っています。

Rom 7:4,6 (NLT)  So, my dear brothers and sisters, this is the point: You died to the power of the law when you died with Christ. And now you are united with the One who was raised from the dead. As a result, we can produce a harvest of good deeds for God. 6 But now we have been released from the law, for we died to it and are no longer captive to its power. Now we can serve God, not in the old way of obeying the letter of the law, but in the new way of living in the Spirit.

Observation

Paul has explained our relationship with the sinful nature and how when Christ died for us, not only did he atone for our sins and reconcile us to the Father God but we died with Christ and are now no longer bound by the power of sin. Now he goes one step further and shows that we not only died to the nature and power of sin but also died to the law and its requirements.  Here he likens it to a woman who while married to a man is bound by the law to be his faithful wife.  If she marries another or has relations with another man while her husband is still alive, she becomes an adulteress who has broken the law.  However, if her husband dies, then even if she remarries, she has not broken the law.  Paul brings us back to our death with Christ. When we died with Christ, we not only died to the nature and power of sin but also the bondage of the law.  (Remember this is an analogy and not a completely perfect picture.)  We are released from our obligation to keep the law, but we now obey not just the letter of the law but the spirit of the law which is to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength, and to love our neighbor as ourselves (see Mark 12:30-31). Paul calls this a new way of living in the Spirit.
