ローマ　4:16-17（新改訳SKY2017）　そのようなわけで、すべては信仰によるのです。それは、事が恵みによるようになるためです。こうして、約束がすべての子孫に、すなわち、律法を持つ人々だけでなく、アブラハムの信仰に倣う人々にも保証されるのです。アブラハムは、私たちすべての者の父です。17 「わたしはあなたを多くの国民の父とした」と書いてあるとおりです。彼は、死者を生かし、無いものを有るものとして召される神を信じ、その御前で父となったのです。
（JCB） そういうわけで、神の祝福は、無償の贈り物として、信仰によって与えられるのです。ユダヤ人の慣習に従うか否かに関係なく、アブラハムと同じ信仰を持っているなら、神の祝福を確実にいただけるのです。信仰の面から言えば、アブラハムは、私たちすべての者の父です。 17聖書に、「神はアブラハムを多くの国民の父とされた」とあるのは、この意味にほかなりません。神はどこの国の人でも、アブラハムと同じように、神に信頼する者をみな受け入れてくださるのです。神ご自身が、すなわち死者を生き返らせ、未来の出来事をすでに実現したかのような確実さでお語りになる神ご自身が、そう約束しておられるのです。

パウロはさらに掘り下げて、どのように神の前で義とされるのか、だれがこの義にあずかるのかを説明しています。ユダヤ人は自分たちこそが契約のしるしとして割礼を受けている者、神の律法を持つ者として、当然神の恵みにあずかる者であると自慢していました。しかし、パウロはもう一度アブラハムの例に戻り、アブラハムが神の前で義とされたのは律法が与えられる前であり、彼も割礼を受ける以前のことであると証言しています。そして、割礼を受けている者（ユダヤ人）であれ、受けていない者（異邦人）であれ、この神の義を受けることができると適用しているのです。「彼は、割礼を受けていないときに信仰によって義と認められたことの証印として、割礼というしるしを受けたのです。それは、彼が、割礼を受けないままで信じるすべての人の父となり、彼らも義と認められるためであり、12また、単に割礼を受けているだけではなく、私たちの父アブラハムが割礼を受けていなかったときの信仰の足跡にしたがって歩む者たちにとって、割礼の父となるためでした」（11-12節 SKY2017ガラテヤ3:7-9も参照）。私たちはアブラハムに倣って主なる神を信じ信頼するなら、アブラハムの子とされ、同じ約束、同じ契約に預かる者とされるのです。この約束のカギはここにあるのです。「どこの国の人であろうと、あなたのようにわたしを信頼する人を祝福しよう」（創世12・3）と宣言された」（ガラテヤ3:8 JCB）。

Rom 4:16-17 NIV84  Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham’s offspring—not only to those who are of the law but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all. 17 As it is written: “I have made you a father of many nations.” He is our father in the sight of God, in whom he believed—the God who gives life to the dead and calls things that are not as though they were.

Observation

Paul doubles down on how we are made righteous before God and who it applies to.  The Jews had the perception that they were in God’s good graces because of their circumcision and because of the Law.  But Paul once again goes back to Abraham and proves that Abraham was made righteous before God before the Law was ever given and even before he received circumcision as the sign of the covenant.  Then he applies it to all of us both Jews who are circumcised and Gentiles who are uncircumcised.  “So then, he is the father of all who believe but have not been circumcised, in order that righteousness might be credited to them. And he is also the father of the circumcised who not only are circumcised but who also walk in the footsteps of the faith that our father Abraham had before he was circumcised.” (v. 11-12 NIV84; see also Gal 3:7-9). If we believe and trust the Lord God just as Abraham did, we are the Children of Abraham and receive the same promises and blessings as Abraham. The key to the promise is, “All nations will be blessed through you.” (Gal 3:8).
