今日のことば

ゼカリヤ 1:12-13 （新改訳SKY17）　それに答えて主の使いは言った。「万軍の主よ。いつまで、あなたはエルサレムとユダの町々に、あわれみを施されないのですか。あなたが憤られて七十年になります。」すると主は、私と話していた御使いに、恵みのことば、慰めのことばで答えられた。

コメント

ゼカリヤはユダヤ人がバビロン捕囚からエルサレムに帰ってきたときに生きて、働いていました。これはエルサレムが復興し再建されているはずの時でしたが、なかなかことは進まず、うまくいっていませんでした。周りの国々はある程度の平和と繁栄を体験していましたが、ユダとエルサレムはまだ崩壊とがれきの中にありました。主の使いは全能者主なる神に尋ね求めました。「いつまで、あなたはエルサレムとユダの町々に、あわれみを施されないのですか」。主は「恵みのことば、慰めのことばで答えられた」（イザヤ40:1-5なども参照）。私たちは困難や苦難の中にあるとき、これがすべてで終わりと思ってはいけません。物事が進まないように感じる時にも主は働いておられ、良い計画と目的を働かれているのです。十字架を前にして苦しみの中にいた弟子たちに対してイエスは言いました。「これらのことをあなたがたに話したのは、あなたがたがわたしにあって平安を得るためです。世にあっては苦難があります。しかし、勇気を出しなさい。わたしはすでに世に勝ちました」（ヨハネ16:33 SKY17）。また、パウロはローマの信者たちに言いました。「しかし、これらすべてにおいても、私たちを愛してくださった方によって、私たちは圧倒的な勝利者です。私はこう確信しています。死も、いのちも、御使いたちも、支配者たちも、今あるものも、後に来るものも、力あるものも、高いところにあるものも、深いところにあるものも、そのほかのどんな被造物も、私たちの主キリスト・イエスにある神の愛から、私たちを引き離すことはできません」（ローマ8:37-39 SKY17）。私たちの歩みなかでどこにいても、まだ、神の働きは終わっていないことを知らなければなりません。「あなたがたの間で良い働きを始められた方は、キリスト・イエスの日が来るまでにそれを完成させてくださると、私は確信しています」（ピリピ 1:6 SKY17）。

Zec 1:12-13 (NIV84)  Then the angel of the LORD said, “LORD Almighty, how long will you withhold mercy from Jerusalem and from the towns of Judah, which you have been angry with these seventy years?” 13 So the LORD spoke kind and comforting words to the angel who talked with me.

Observation

Zechariah lived and prophesied during the time of the Jews return to Jerusalem from Babylon.  It was supposed to be a time of rebuilding and restoration but it did not seem to be proceeding very well or very fast.  The nations of the world were living in relative peace and prosperity, but Judah and Jerusalem were still in very difficult situation and still among the rubble of destruction.  The Angel of the Lord asks the Lord God Almighty, “How long will you withhold mercy from Jerusalem and the towns of Judah?”  The Lord’s answer was with “kind and comforting words.” (see also Isa 40:1-5 etc.)   We must never think that everything has come to an end when we are in the midst of trouble and distress.  Even when it seems like things are not progressing, the Lord God is with us and at work to bring forth his plan and purpose.  Jesus spoke these words to the disciples where could not understand what was happening during the days leading up to the cross, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33 NIV84)  Paul tells the Roman believers, “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Rom 8:37-39 NIV84)  No matter where we our in our journey, God is not finished with us yet, “And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” (Phil 1:6 ESV)
