2テモテ 2:15,19 (新改訳SKY17)　 あなたは務めにふさわしいと認められる人として、すなわち、真理のみことばをまっすぐに説き明かす、恥じることのない働き人として、自分を神に献げるように最善を尽くしなさい。19しかし、神の堅固な土台は据えられていて、そこに次のような銘が刻まれています。「主はご自分に属する者を知っておられる。」また、「主の御名を呼ぶ者はみな、不義を離れよ。」

私たちの救いと信仰の歩みに二つの面があります（一枚の硬貨の両面のように）。片割れで、神に喜ばれるためにできる限りを尽くして努力するのですが、半面、主が私たちを選び、私たちの内に働き、ご自分のものとされていることに確信を置かなければなりません。パウロはピリピの人々にも言いました。「．．．恐れおののいて自分の救いを達成するように努めなさい。神は御心のままに、あなたがたのうちに働いていて志を建てさせ、琴を行わせてくださる方です」（ピリピ2:12-13 SKY17）。またこのように言いました。「私たちはキリストによって、神の御前でこのような確信を抱いています。何かを自分が成したことだと考える資格は、私たちにはありません。私たちの資格は神から与えられるものです」（２コリント 3:4-5 SKY17）。へブル書にもこのように書いてあります。「あらゆる善いものを持って、あなたがたを整え、御心を行わせてくださいますように。また、御前で御心にかなうことを、イエス・キリストを通して、私たちの内に行ってくださいますように。栄光が世々限りなくイエス・キリストにありますように。アーメン」（へブル１３:２１ SKY17）。ペテロも確認しています。「私たちをご自身の栄光と栄誉によって召してくださった神を、私たちが知ったことにより、主イエスの、神としての御力はいのちと敬虔をもたらすすべてのものを私たちに与えました。5だららこそ、あなたがたはあらゆる熱心を傾けて．．．」（２ペテロ 1:3,5 SKY17）。

2Ti 2:15,19 (NIV84)  Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. 19  Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and, “Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness.”

Observation

There are two aspects (two sides of the same coin) to our salvation and living for the Lord. One is that we must diligently work to present ourselves to the Lord.  The other is that we must acknowledge and have the confidence that God has chosen us and put his mark on us.  Paul tells the Philippians, “…continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.” (Phil 2:12-13 NIV84).  Paul also said, “We are confident of all this because of our great trust in God through Christ. It is not that we think we are qualified to do anything on our own. Our qualification comes from God.” (2Cor 3:4-5 NLT) Hebrews also tells us, “May He equip you with all you need for doing His will. May He produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to Him. All glory to Him forever and ever! Amen.” (Heb 13:21 NLT)  Peter also confirms this.  “By His divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know Him, the One who called us to Himself by means of His marvelous glory and excellence. 5 In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises.” (2Pet 1:3,5 NLT).
