エゼキエル 42:20 （新改訳SKY17）　彼が外壁の周りを巡って四方を測ると、その長さは五百竿、幅も五百竿で、聖なるものと俗なるものとを分けていた。

「この壁は聖なるものと俗なるものを明らかな境界を設けるためにあります。この区別は神がご自分の聖さを認めさせ、あがめられる（敬われる）ために設けられています。この境界（仕切り線）は神の民を完全に孤立するためではなく、彼らの聖さを認めさせ、ご自分の民として聖別するためです。」（リビングライル8/18 英語版）。旧約聖書においても、新約聖書においてもこの区別がなされています。私たちは聖別されて、聖なる者として生きるようにと召されています。「むしろ、あなたがたを召された聖なる方に倣い、あなたがた自身、生活のすべてにおいて聖なる者となりなさい。「あなたがたは聖なる者でなければならない。わたしが聖だからである」と書いてあるからです。」（1ペテロ 1:15-16 SKY17）。聖なる者として聖別されるとはこの世から離れて生きることではありません。かえって、この世において、聖い者として生きる、ふるまうことを求められているのです。「この世の人々の生活や考え方をまねてはいけません。むしろ、神に喜ばれることは何かを思いながら、なすこと考えることすべての面で生き生きとした、全く新しい人となりなさい。」（ローマ 12:2 JCB）。しかし、私たちの行いによって聖なる者とされるのではなく、主イエス・キリストによってきよめられ、聖なる者とされるのです。「すなわち、いたるところで私たちの主イエス・キリストの名を呼び求めているすべての人とともに、キリスト・イエスにあって聖なる者とされ、聖徒（聖められた人）として召された方々へ。主はそのすべての人の主であり、私たちの主です。」（1コリント 1:2 SKY17）。

Observation
This wall forms a clear boundary between what is holy and what is common.  This distinction underscores God’s desire for His holiness to be recognized and honored.  The boundary was not meant to isolate God’s people completely, but to remind them of their identity as people set apart for Him.” (Living Life 8/18 Reflections). Both in the OT and NT this distinction is made and we are called to live in holiness. “ But according as He Who has called you is holy, you yourselves also be holy in all your conduct; 16 For it is written, “You be holy because I am holy.” (1Pet 1:15-16 AFV). We have been called to be priest, set apart to minister to the Lord and to represent the Holy God to people (see 1Pet 2:5,9). By being holy and set apart does not mean we separate ourselves from living in this world, but rather to make the space we live in holy by our life and actions. “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” (Rom 12:2 NLT). We are holy not because of what we do, but because He has made us holy. “…to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be holy, together with all those everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ—their Lord and ours.” (1Cor 1:2 NIV84).
