1歴代誌 13:13-14 （新改訳SKY17）　そこでダビデは、箱を自分のところ、ダビデの町には移さず、ガテ人オベデ・エドムの家に回した。14神の箱は、オベデ・エドムの一家とともに、彼の家に三か月とどまった。主は、オベデ・エドムの家と、彼に属するすべてのものを祝福された。

コメント
ダビデの心は良かったです。神の臨在の象徴であり、神の御座とも呼ばれる契約の箱をエルサレムに持ってくることを願っていました。しかし、この最初の取り組みは人間的な方法でしようとしました。ペリシテ人が契約の箱をイスラエルに戻された時には牛に引かれた荷車に載せて送り返したのです（1サムエル6:10‐12参照）。ダビデは同じようにしようとしました。しかし、これから見られるように、主は契約の箱の取り扱い方、移動手段は明確に、細かく指示を与えていました（1歴代誌 15:2参照）。牛がつまずき、契約の箱がぐらついたときウザは手を出して、安定させようとしましたが、契約の箱に触れた瞬間死にました（9‐10節参照）。ダビデはこのことで動揺し、心外しました。そこで移動を取りやめました。すぐ近くにあったガテ人、オベデ・エドムの家に一時預かることになりました。オベデ・エドムは外国人でしたが、ひょっとしたらイスラエル人の混血であったかもしれません。しかし、イスラエルに住んでいて、イスラエルの神、主の臨在にひかれていたようです。契約の箱を自分の家にいれることは大変危険性もありながら、受け入れました。でも、「．．．主は、オベデ・エドムの家と、彼に属するすべてのものを祝福された」とあります。そして、実はこの時に神の臨在を味わい、愛する者となりました。

1Ch 13:13-14 NIV84  He did not take the ark to be with him in the City of David. Instead, he took it aside to the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite. 14 The ark of God remained with the family of Obed-Edom in his house for three months, and the LORD blessed his household and everything he had.

Observation
David’s heart was right.  He wanted to bring the Ark of the Covenant, the very throne of God and symbol of God’s presence back to Jerusalem.  But his first attempt was to do it man’s way.  When the Philistines had sent to Ark back to Israel, they had put it on an ox cart (see 1Sam 6:10-12).  David did the same and put the Ark on an ox cart.  As we will see the Lord was very specific and intentional on how the Ark was to be handled and transported (see 1Chro 15:2 etc.).  When the ox stumbled Uzzah reached out to try to steady the Ark. He was immediately struck dead (see v.9-10). This upset David very much and everything immediately came to a halt.  Evidently one of the houses close belonged to a man called Obed-Edom, the Gittite (from Gath). Possibly he was of mixed lineage but he was living in Israel and as we will see had a heart for the Lord God of Israel and his presence. He took a huge risk in accepting the Ark of the Covenant to be temporarily housed in his home.  But here we see that “the Lord blessed his (Obed-Edom’s) household and everything he had.  He also experienced and learned to love the presence of God.
