箴言（知恵の泉） 14:26-27 （リビングバイブルJCB）　神を恐れる人は頑健(がんけん)で、子どもたちは安心して、その人に頼ります。27主を恐れることはいのちの泉です。その水を飲めば生きる力がわいてきます。

コメント

「主を恐れる」ことは箴言の主なテーマの一つです（聖書全体のテーマでもあります）。主を恐れるということは神に対する畏敬を持つことであり、尊敬、神とそのみことばを重んじることであります。神の偉大さ、力、主権、正義（愛の神でありながら、正義の神である）などをも認め、そのうちに生きることです。このことを理解し、そのうちに生きることが主を恐れることです。生きる確信を与え、安心して暮らするようにする。社会全体が神を恐れるようになることその社会は安全な場所となります。主への恐れはまた、いのちの水の源でもあります（これもみことばを通して流れるテーマです）。ここから私たちも豊かな命を得ることができます。

Pro 14:26-27 MSG  The Fear-of-GOD builds up confidence, and makes a world safe for your children. 27 The Fear-of-GOD is a spring of living water so you won’t go off drinking from poisoned wells.

Observation

The fear of God is a major theme of Proverbs (and of the whole Bible).  It is to be in reverent awe of God, respect, honor, acknowledging his greatness, power, sovereignty, and justice (He is a God of love, but also of justice and righteousness.) Understanding this and living your life in this recognition is to live in the fear of God.  Fear of God not only causes us to live rightly and justly, it give us confidence.  When a society lives in the fear of God it because a safe place.  But the fear of God is also a spring of living water (another theme that runs through the Bible) from which we can draw abundant life.
