Scripture
Psa 119:17-18 ESV (Gimel) Deal bountifully with your servant, that I may live and keep your word. 18Â Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law.
Observation
The psalmist expresses his heart and desire for the Word of God. “Deal bountifully†can also mean, “Reward your servant: let him have the return of his faith and prayers.†Studying and meditating on the Word is very rewarding. We are able to know and understand our Lord God who might otherwise be very distant. But God has revealed himself especially in His Word and we are able to know Him personally and intimately. The other prayer is Open my eyes. It means “uncover or remove the veil; reveal.† This is what happened to the two disciples on the road to Emmaus when Jesus opened the Scriptures to them concerning Himself (Luke 24:16, 45). When Jesus appeared to Saul (later Paul), Jesus told Saul  “I have appointed…I am sending you to the Gentiles to open their eyes to that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God.†(Acts 26:16, 18 ESV). As we read and meditate on the Word, let us always ask, “Open my eyes to see wonderful thingsâ€. And we can expect a bountiful reward.Â
