Eze 25:10-11 (NIV84)Â I will give Moab along with the Ammonites to the people of the East as a possession, so that the Ammonites will not be remembered among the nations; 11 and I will inflict punishment on Moab. Then they will know that I am the LORD.'”
Observation
Ezekiel now begins to prophecy to the nations that surround Israel. We see throughout Scripture, and also through all of history, that one of the ways God see and judges the nations of the world is how they relate to and treat Israel, His covenant people. God told Abraham, “I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”   (Gen 12:2-3 NIV84). In this section Ezekiel speaks to Ammon, Moab, Edom and the Philistines. All of them except Philistines are actually distant relatives of Israel. Ammon and Moab are descendants of Lot, and Edom is the descendants of Esau. They harbored bitter hatred against Israel, God’s chosen people and troubled them constantly. When the Lord finally punished Israel for her rejection of God and his ways by sending them into Babylonian captivity, all of these neighboring nations rejoiced and ridiculed Israel (see v.3, 8, 14,15 etc.; see also Psa 83:1-8 etc.), and so the Lord brings judgment on them as well.  It is not because Israel was perfect or without fault but because they are chosen for a special purpose in God’s plan for the nations and the world. Of course, our savior and Israel’s Messiah came through Israel, but God still has a purpose for the nation of Israel (see Rom 9-11), as He does for every nation. We can also see that He will ultimately judge all nations based on how they treat his people (“the least of theseâ€). (see Matt 25:31-46; see also Deut 32:9-11; Zech 2:8-10 etc.). Ultimately, “All Israel shall be saved.†(Rom 11:26); but also it is connected to our ultimate salvation and redemption (see Rom 11:15).
