エゼキエル 29:16 (リビングバイブル JCB)　 イスラエルも、二度とエジプトに助けを求めたりはしない。助けを求めようとするたびに、以前の苦い失敗を思い出すからだ。こうしてイスラエルは、わたしだけが神であることを認めるようになる。」

コメント
アッシリア帝国とバビロン帝国が起きるまでは、エジプト王国が地方の主な軍事力と政治勢力でした。イスラエル王国もユダ王国も自分たちの契約の神、主に頼る代わりにくりかえしエジプトに助けを求めました。そして、そのたびに頼りになりませんでした。エゼキエルはこのように表しました。「彼らがあなたの手をつかむと、あなたは折れて、彼らの肩をみな砕いた。彼らがあなたに寄りかかると、あなたはくずおれて、彼らの腰をみな痛めさせた」（7節 SKY17；イザヤ　31:1； 36:4-6も参照）。ダビデはこのように宣言しました。「今　私は知る。主が　主に油注がれた者を救ってくださることを。右の御手の救いの御力をもって　聖なる天から　その者に答えてくださることを。7ある者は戦車を　ある者は馬を求める。しかし私たちは　私たちの神　主の御名を呼び求める。彼らは膝をつき　倒れた。しかし私たちは　まっすぐに立ち上がった」（詩篇 20:6-7 SKY17)。箴言はこのようにさとしています。「主の名は堅固なやぐら。正しい人はその中に駆け込み、保護される」（箴言 18:10 SKY17）。私たちはどこに助けと安全を求めるのでしょうか？どこに私たちの信頼を置いているのでしょうか？

Eze 29:16 NIV84  Egypt will no longer be a source of confidence for the people of Israel but will be a reminder of their sin in turning to her for help. Then they will know that I am the Sovereign LORD.'”

Observation
Until the rise of the Assyrian and Babylonian empires, Egypt was the dominate power and ruler of the world of the time (around the Mediterranean Sea and the ME).  When Israel and Judah were being attacked by the Assyrians and the Babylonians, rather that relying on the God of their covenant, they turned to Egypt many times.  But time and again they proved unreliable.  Ezekiel describes it this way, “When they grasped you with their hands, you splintered and you tore open their shoulders; when they leaned on you, you broke and their backs were wrenched.” (v.7 NIV84; see also Isa 31:1; 36:4-6 etc.).  David declared his trust in the Lord, “Now I know that the LORD saves his anointed; he answers him from his holy heaven with the saving power of his right hand. 7 Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.” (Psa 20:6-7 NIV84).   Proverbs tells us, “The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.” (Prov 18:10 NIV84).  Where are we looking for our strength and safety?  Where are we putting our confidence?
