エゼキエル 33:11（新改訳SKY17）彼らにこう言え。「わたしは生きている──神である主のことば──。わたしは決して悪しき者の死を喜ばない。悪しき者がその道から立ち返り、生きることを喜ぶ。立ち返れ。悪の道から立ち返れ。イスラエルの家よ、なぜ、あなたがたは死のうとするのか。」

コメント
主がさばきの警告をされるのは人々をさばくことを喜ばれるからではなく、かえって、彼らが、その悪から離れて、神に立ち帰り、神があわれみを示すことができるためです。この同じ文書はエゼキエル書に二回も繰り返され（エゼキエル18:23参照）、神がいかにあわれみを示し、罪を赦すことを願っているかがあらわされています。しかし、私たちを救うのは私たちの義の（正しい）行いではなく、神のあわれみと恵みです。そして、そのあわれみと恵みを受ける唯一の方法は罪の生き方を悔い改めて、離れることです。主はソロモンにも言いました。「わたしの名で呼ばれているわたしの民が、自らへりくだり、祈りをささげ、わたしの顔を慕い求めてその悪の道から立ち返るなら、わたしは親しく天から聞いて、彼らの罪を赦し、彼らの地を癒やす」（2歴代誌 7:14 SKY17）。主はモーゼにも宣言しました。「主、主は、あわれみ深く、情け深い神。怒るのに遅く、恵みとまことに富み、恵みを千代まで保ち、咎と背きと罪を赦す。しかし、罰すべき者を必ず罰し．．．報いる者である」（出エジプト記 34:6-7 SKY17）。使徒ヨハネはこのように言いました。「もし私たちが自分の罪を告白するなら、神は真実で正しい方ですから、その罪を赦し、私たちをすべての不義からきよめてくださいます」（1ヨハネ 1:9 SKY17）。パウロもこのように言いました。「キリストにある者と認められるようになるためです。私は律法による自分の義ではなく、キリストを信じることによる義、すなわち、信仰に基づいて神から与えられる義を持つのです」（ピリピ 3:9 SKY17）。また、このように言いました。「神は、私たちが行った義のわざによってではなく、ご自分のあわれみによって、聖霊による再生と刷新の洗いをもって、私たちを救ってくださいました」（テトス 3:5 SKY17）。

Eze 33:11 AMPC Say to them, As I live, says the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn back, turn back from your evil ways, for why will you die, O house of Israel? 

Observation
The Lord warns of judgment not because he delights in bringing judgment on people but rather to call them to turn from their wicked ways so that he may show them mercy. This verse is repeated twice in the book of Ezekiel, emphasizing God’s heart to show mercy and forgive sins (see also Ezek 18:23). It is not our righteousness that will save us but rather God’s mercy and grace.  But there is only one way to receive His mercy and grace and that is through repentance and turning from our sinful ways.  The Lord told Solomon many years before this, “ If My people, who are called by My name, shall humble themselves, pray, seek, crave, and require of necessity My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land.” (2Chro 7:14 AMPC). This is what the Lord also declared to Moses, “The Lord! the Lord! a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abundant in loving-kindness and truth, 7 Keeping mercy and loving-kindness for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but Who will by no means clear the guilty…” (Exo 34:6-7 AMPC). The Apostle John also says it this way, “If we [freely] admit that we have sinned and confess our sins, He is faithful and just (true to His own nature and promises) and will forgive our sins [dismiss our lawlessness] and [continuously] cleanse us from all unrighteousness [everything not in conformity to His will in purpose, thought, and action].” (1John 1:9 AMPC). Paul says, “…and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith…“ (Phil 3:9 ESV)   Paul further explains, “He saved us, not because of any works of righteousness that we had done, but because of His own pity and mercy, by [the] cleansing [bath] of the new birth (regeneration) and renewing of the Holy Spirit.” (Tit 3:5 AMPC).
