エゼキエル 35:11 （新改訳SKY17）　それゆえ──神である主のことば──わたしは生きている。わたしは必ずおまえを罰する。おまえが憎しみから彼らに対してふるまったのと、同じほどの怒りとねたみをもって。わたしがおまえをさばくとき、わたしは彼らに対して自らを現す。

コメント
ここで現れていた憎しみと苦い心は何世代もさかのぼるものです。実は、彼ら自身とは何のかかわりもなかったのですが、あえて、その憎しみを取り上げていたのです。これは大昔エサオとヤコブの間の出来事から始まり（創世記 25,27など参照）、何世代にわたってこの苦々しい心が続いていたのです。イスラエルがエジプトから約束の地に向かう途中、エドム（エサオの子孫）はイスラエルを自分の領土を通らせませんでした（ゆえに、遠い迂回をしなければなりませんでした）。ダビデとソロモンの時代にはエドムと戦って、神から与えられた国境を固めました（しかし、行き過ぎたところもありました、1列王記 11:14など参照）。エドムは存在続けた間イスラエルの敵でした。この個所で神が取り扱っているのはエドムが抱え続けた憎しみと苦々しい心でした。主がイスラエルの罪のゆえに彼らをさばかれた時、エドムはこれを機会に、イスラエルの残りのものを攻撃し、殺し、その領地を自分のものにしようとしていました。エサオ（とその子孫エドム）の問題の根拠はヤコブとの争い以前に、主なる神とその祝福を軽んじ見捨てたところから始まりました（創世記 25:34参照）。そしてその時から、苦い根が生え始めたのです。へブル書はこのことを取り上げて語っています。「だれも神の恵みから落ちないように、また、苦い根が生え出て悩ませたり、これによって多くの人が汚されたりしないように、気をつけなさい。16また、だれも、一杯の食物と引き替えに自分の長子の権利を売ったエサウのように、淫らな者、俗悪な者にならないようにしなさい」（へブル12:15‐16 SKY17； 申命記 29:18も参照）。苦々しい心（恨み、憎しみ、赦さない心、怒りなど）は抱き続ける者を滅ぼします。しかしイエスは言いました、私たちは人の罪を赦すときに、私たちも赦される（マタイ6:14‐15；エペソ4：32; コロサイ 3:12-13なども参照）。

Eze 35:11 (NIV84)  therefore as surely as I live, declares the Sovereign LORD, I will treat you in accordance with the anger and jealousy you showed in your hatred of them and I will make myself known among them when I judge you.  

Observation
The root of this bitterness and anger goes back generations.  It had nothing to do with them personally, but they took up a bitterness and anger that God declares will destroy them.  It starts between Esau and Jacob (see Gen 25,27 etc.) but continues down through generations. When Israel journeyed to the Promised land, Edom refused to allow them to pass through their territory (which would have been much quicker and easier.) David and Solomon had to fight the Edomites to secure and establish the land God had promised them. (but at times went beyond what needed to be done, see 1Kings 11:14 etc.)   Edom remained an enemy of Israel for all of their existence.  But what the Lord is dealing with here is their bitterness and hatred of Israel and even when God had to punish and judge Israel, Edom steps in to take advantage of Israel and thinking they would take the land of Israel for themselves.  Esau’s (and Edom, his descendants’) problem did not begin with the conflict between Esau and Jacob but rather from Esau’s rejection of God and his despising (and made light) of his birthright (the spiritual and physical blessing of God).  As a result he allowed a root of bitterness to grow. This is what the writer of the Book of Hebrews is referring to, “See to it that no one misses the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many. 16 See that no one is sexually immoral, or is godless like Esau, who for a single meal sold his inheritance rights as the oldest son.” (Heb 12:15-16 NIV84; see also Deut 29:18). Bitterness (hatred, unforgiveness, anger, envy) will destroy the person who harbors it and refuses to let it go (see Matt 6:14-15; Eph 4:32; Col 3:12-13).
