1歴代誌 20:7-8 （新改訳SKY17）　彼はイスラエルをそしったが、ダビデの兄弟シムアの子ヨナタンが彼を打ち殺した。8これらはガテのラファの子孫で、ダビデとその家来たちの手にかかって倒れた。

コメント
この個所はまだ残されていたラファの子孫（巨人）に対する戦いを記録しています。過去において神はラファの巨人を倒しました（ダビデがゴリアテを殺した時など、1サムエル記17章など）。しかし、殺されなければならない巨人がまだ残っていました（4‐6節）。その中にゴリアテの兄弟や各手と足に指が6本ある巨人もいました。彼らがゴリアテ同様、イスラエルとイスラエルの神をそしり、侮りました。しかし、神はこれらのものをイスラエルの戦士の手に渡しました。彼らの名前も記録に残されています（その一人はダビデの甥、シムアの子ヨナタン）。私たちの戦いは特に肉的な戦いではなく、霊的な戦いですが、同じように主が勝利を与えてくださいます。「私たちは肉にあって歩んではいても、肉に従って戦ってはいません。私たちの戦いの武器は肉のものではなく、神のために要塞を打ち倒す力があるものです。」（2コリント10:3-4 SKY17； エペソ 6:10-12も参照）。私たちを、我らの神をそしり、あなどる「巨人」に立ち向かうときにも、神は約束しています。「しかし、これらすべてにおいても、私たちを愛してくださった方によって、私たちは圧倒的な勝利者です。」（ローマ 8:37 SKY17; 1ヨハネ　4:4；5:4なども参照）。黙示録の中でヨハネは言っています。「兄弟たちは、子羊の血と、自分たちの証しのことばのゆえに　竜に打ち勝った。彼らは死に至るまでも　自分のいのちを惜しまなかった。(黙示録 12:11 SKY17)。

1Chro 20:7-8 (NLT)  But when he defied and taunted Israel, he was killed by Jonathan, the son of David’s brother Shimea. 8 These Philistines were descendants of the giants of Gath, but David and his warriors killed them.

Observation
This section recounts the on-going battle against the remaining giants of Caanan called the Rephaites. Even though God has given victory over the giants (Rephaites) in the past (David killed Goliath, see 1Sam 17) there are still more giants that need to be killed and eliminated (see v. 4-6). There was even a brother of Goliath that was killed and another giant that had six fingers on each hand and 6 toes on each foot.  They did exactly the same thing as Goliath had done, they taunted and defied Israel and their God (see 1Sam 17:8-10).  But God gave them into the hands of the Israelites and recorded the names of those who killed them (one was David’s nephew Jonathan son of Shimea). Our battle is not necessarily a physical one but a spiritual one. “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. 4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds.” (2Cor 10:3-4 NKJV; see also Eph 6:10-12).  If we will stand and fight against the “giants that taunt and defy us and our God”, He promises, “Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” (Rom 8:37 NKJV; see also 1 John 4:4; 5:4 etc.) John tells us in Revelations how we overcome, “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.” (Rev 12:11 NKJV).
