1歴代誌 21:１, 8 (新改訳SKY17)　 さて、サタンがイスラエルに向かって立ち上がり、イスラエルの人口を数えるように、ダビデをそそのかした。8 ダビデは神に言った。「私は、このようなことをして、大きな罪を犯しました。どうか、このしもべの咎を取り去ってください。私は本当に愚かなことをしました。」

何かがイスラエルの中で起こり、主の怒りが燃え上がりました。その時に、ダビデ王は自分の高慢のゆえにイスラエルの戦士たちの人口調査をするようにそそのかされました。しかし、このことが行われたすぐ後に、心が打たれて（良心がとがめられて）神の前にへりくだり、罪が赦され、きよめられるようにと祈り願いました。サタンが誘惑をされたのですが、ダビデにこのことを行わせたわけではありません（1節参照）。同時にこれは、神が誘惑を許されましたが神自身が誘惑されたのでもなく（2サムエル記 24:1; 1コリント 10:13; ヤコブ 1:13-15など参照）、ダビデがこのことが間違っていることを知りながらも、周りの者（ヨアブなど）によってしないようにと警告されても、調査を実行されました。しかし、すぐに心を打たれ、良心がとがめられました。これはダビデの柔らかい応答しやすい心を現しています（詩篇25:11； 32:5; 51:1-3なども参照）。これから主がどのようにダビデに対して、イスラエルに対して取り扱われるかを見ますが、実は、神はこのことを通して、神の贖いの計画、神殿の場所を定めるために用いられるかを見ます。私たちは誘惑に陥らないように気を付けなければなりませんが（でもこれは私たちの行為的な行いです）、しかし、心へりくだり、神に立ち返るときに、罪を悔い改め、告白するときに、主は赦し、きよめてくださいます（1ヨハネ1:8ー2:1参照）。神は私たちの過ちをも用いて、神の贖いの計画を進めることができます。私たちは常に、聖霊様に対して、柔らかい、応じやすい心を持つようにと務めましょう。

1Ch 21:1, 8 (ESV) Then Satan stood against Israel and incited David to number Israel. 8 And David said to God, “I have sinned greatly in that I have done this thing. But now, please take away the iniquity of your servant, for I have acted very foolishly.”

Observation
Something happens in Israel that causes the anger of the Lord against them. Then David is tempted in his pride to take a census of the fighting men of Israel and Judah.  But as soon as he has done this, his heart is convicted and he asks God to forgive and take away his iniquity (wickedness, sin). Satan tempted David but did not make David do this (see v.1).  Also God did not tempt David although he allowed him to be tempted (see 2Sam 24:1; also 1Cor 10:13; Jam 1:13-15 etc.). David chose to do this even though he knew it was wrong and those around him (Joab) warned against it.  But then the conviction of the Lord moves him to repent.  This is an example of David’s tender and responsive heart (see Psa 25:11; 32:5; 51:1-3 etc.). We will see how the Lord deals with David and with Israel, but we will also see how the Lord is setting up for a great redemption and revelation of his plan and purpose involving the location of the Temple that will be built. We must guard against falling into temptation (our choice) but when we do we must return to the Lord with humility and repentance (see 1John 1:8 – 2:1). God is able to use even our mistakes to further His plan of redemption in our lives. Let’s always have a tender and responsive heart to the conviction of the Holy Spirit.
