Scripture

Joh 8:12  Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow Me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”
(NLT) Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow Me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”
(MSG) Jesus once again addressed them: “I am the world’s Light. No one who follows me stumbles around in the darkness. I provide plenty of light to live in.”

Observation

Jesus clearly said, “I am the Light of the World.” John starts this book off with this introduction of Jesus, “The Word gave life to everything that was created, and His life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.” (John 1:4-5 NLT)  In his letter John again picks up this theme, “This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in Him at all…if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, cleanses us from all sin.” (1John 1:5,7 NLT).  So Paul admonishes us, “For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light! For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true.” (Eph 5:8-9 NLT).  Jesus said, “Put your trust in the light while there is still time; then you will become children of the light.” (John 12:36 NLT).  And, “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” (Matt 5:14-16 NLT). Let’s receive the light of Jesus and be the light in our dark world (be reflectors of His light).
