ローマ 4:18-21 （新改訳SKY2017）　彼は望み得ない時に望みを抱いて信じ、「あなたの子孫は、このようになる」と言われていたとおり、多くの国民の父となりました。19彼は、およそ百歳になり、自分のからだがすでに死んだも同然であること、またサラの胎が死んでいることを認めても、その信仰は弱まりませんでした。20不信仰になって神の約束を疑うようなことはなく、かえって信仰が強められて、神に栄光を帰し、21 神には約束したことを実行する力がある、と確信していました。

コメント

「アブラハムは神を信じた。それで、それが彼の義と認められた」（3節）だけではなく、「彼は望み得ない時に望みを抱いて信じ（た）」。「望みを抱く道理もなかったのに、アブラハムは望み続けた」（英訳NLT）。「すべてが絶望的に見えても、それでもアブラハムは信じた。自分にはできないこと見ず、神が約束し、なしうることを信じて望みを抱くことを決めた」（英訳MSG）。私たちは「事実」と「真実」を見分けなければなりません。事実には説得力もありますが、角度によって変わります。しかし、真実は変わりません。神の真実は永遠に変わらないものであり、私たちの信仰と希望の基礎になければなりません。「約束してくださった方は真実な方ですから、私たちは動揺しないで、しっかりと希望を告白し続けようではありませんか」（へブル10:23 SKY2017）。私たちは確信を持って望みを抱くことができるのは真理のみです。イエスは言いました。「あなたのことばは真理です」（ヨハネ。17:17）。希望が欲しければ神のみことばの真理をしっかりと握りましょう。

Rom 4:18-20 (NIV84) Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” 19 Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. 20 Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God.

Observation

Not only “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.” But “against all hope, Abraham in hope believed…” “Even when there was no reason for hope, Abraham kept hoping…” (NLT)  “When everything was hopeless, Abraham believed anyway, deciding to live not on the basis of what he saw he couldn’t do but on what God said he would do.” (MSG)  We must differentiate between the “facts” and “The Truth”.  Facts can seem so convincing but can change from the perspective you see them from.  Truth does not change.  God’s truth is everlasting and must be the foundation of our faith and our hope.  “Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep His promise.” (Heb 10:23 NLT). The only thing that we can confidently hope in is the truth and Jesus said, “Your word is truth.” (John 17:17 ESV).  If you want hope, hang on to the truth of God’s Word!
