Scripture
Psa 119:174-175 (NIV84)  I long for your salvation, O LORD, and your law is my delight. 175  Let me live that I may praise you, and may your laws sustain me.

Observation
This sentiment of longing for salvation is repeated throughout Scripture and even several times here in Psalms 119 (see v. 81, 123, 166 etc.).  The work of salvation is past, present and future. The Lord God began his work of salvation as soon as Adam sinned (He clothed them in garments of skin) and declared, “…He (Messiah) will crush your (the serpent’s) head, and you will strike his heel.â€) This was fulfilled on the cross when through Christ death He broke the curse of sin and redeemed man. We refer to this as salvation because, He saved us from our sins (see Matt 1:21).  From the Psalmist perspective he was indeed looking forward to and waiting for this salvation.  But there is an ultimate salvation when everything that was lost through the fall will be restored.  “…so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.†(Heb 9:28 NIV84). In this way, there is a past, present and future salvation.  We are saved (past tense) through Christ’s substitutional, redemptive sacrifice. But we are being saved (present continuous) daily and in our everyday lives.  And we will see and experience the ultimate salvation in the future when the Lord God restores all things (see Rom 8:22-25). “For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he already has? 25 But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.†(Rom 8:24-25 NIV84). Revelations also declares this ultimate salvation, “Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: “Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ. For the accuser of our brothers, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down.†(Rev 12:10 NIV84). This is the salvation for which we long (see Rev 21:1-7).
